Closet Organizing: Reducing Wardrobe Decision Fatigue

In seeking to acquire a more organized mind, my next area to conquer is closet organizing. I’m on a quest to simplify, organize, downsize and reduce what the experts call “decision fatigue”. In our world of abundance and too many choices, having multiple options can lead our brains to experience a slowing and sluggishness, leading to a complete inability to make decisions in some instances.Case in point – have you looked in your closet lately?...more

Simple Solutions for Clutter

Managing Clutter as a ParentI just finished The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo. From the first chapter I was hooked simply because I was in awe that someone's passion involved other people's clutter. I knew I was on a ride and had to share my takeaways and perspective from the highly talked about KonMari Method....more

DIY Doll Storage & Organization

Having little kids (especially little girls) means having a lot of dolls.  I seriously don’t know how we accumulated so many.  Well, okay maybe I do.  Let’s see…Nana, birthdays, aunts, etc.  You get it.  People love giving little girls a new doll.  Top that off with the fact that my 4 year old does not play with dolls at all (unless it is some sort of superhero) and has given her little sister every single one she has been given and you’ve pretty much got an entire bedroom overtaken by dolls.  So, I had to figure out a solution for storing them....more

How to Attain and Maintain a Clutter-Free Home

I wish someone had told me this years ago, instead of pointing me toward The Container Store, or the magazine Real Simple, or suggesting that closet systems and storage bins were the answer to my problem. ...more

When Life Hands You Lemons....

We've all heard that expression when life hands you lemons, make lemonade! Sometimes the lemons aren't exactly our own. Life is funny. You live one way for most of it and then age, circumstance or whatever sends you a giant curve ball and things change. That's when it's time to reassess and make lemonade! ...more

How to Fold Things ~ Just in Case You Need a Review

Today I thought I’d share some of Martha Stewart’s laundry folding techniques or maybe it’s because I’m staring at a mound of laundry that needs to be folded.  Even my font is Fluffy Slacks!  I guess I have laundry on my mind.  Haha!  These would also be great viewing for a home economics class.  Happy folding! ...more

Finding My Wings

(originally posted @ My Day Job) My house is a mess.  No, I don't mean a "it's been too long since I last dusted" sort of mess (although it has been).  I mean a full blown, how in the heck did this happen, kind of mess.  The sort of mess that stops you from opening the door to anyone knocking because one peek inside will give away your incompetence and may send them running for a phone to call CPS out of concern that your children may be buried under your negligence.  ...more

Ohmygod, JUST PUT IT AWAY!

Just about six months before our wedding, Mike and I sat out front in our realtor's car while she did was she does – securing the house that we wanted at the price that we wanted and getting us our first home.  At the time, houses here were priced at about a third of what they cost now.  (I know, right?)  We spent two weeks painting, moving in, making it ours.  The furniture that had filled our apartment looked so sparse in here, back then. This house is HUGE!  How will we ever fill it?Hah!...more

Operation Home Organization - Introduction and Task 1 (Kitchen Counters)

Since I started this site over a year ago, I have been doing things here and there to clean out the clutter in our home. While we were on vacation we rented a house that was nice, clean, and had only the necessities. Coming back to our own home I realized how far we still really have to go....more

What is it with cats and laundry?

This happens in my house all the time, except Baxter likes to take ownership of entire baskets of clean laundry. Now I put them on something crooked so that if he gets in the whole thing will tip over on him. Haha, I win. What's that you say? Why don't I just fold them and put them away, thereby avoiding the conflict? No, that wouldn't be winning. Enjoy more notes on home, family, and laundry stealing cats at My Spinning Plates....more
