What to Do If You Get Hot Pepper in Your Eye (Seriously)

First, I would just like to say that the number-one solution for the pain of hot pepper in your eye is simply to wear gloves while cutting peppers and NEVER EVER TOUCH YOUR EYE after cutting them. However, since I was not quite so smart last Friday, I had to come up with another remedy. ...more

On becoming a Weather Wimp

I live on the gorgeous island of O'ahu in Hawai'i. Land of Spam musubi and rainbows. I followed my boyfriend here (long story) going on three years ago. The weather doesn't change a whole lot. That's probably why it's such a destination location.  Generally, there's sunshine, occassionally cloud coverage and it rains more in the Winter. Still on my part of the island, it doesn't rain all that much. Temperatures stay around 80 degrees plus or minus like seven. ...more

Sizzling Saturday

Every day is sizzling in August in Oklahoma. I don't know the high today, it's been up to 114 degrees this summer, breaking all records. It's almost 9:30 p.m. and it is a cool 98 degrees. I wish I were in Portland, or Seattle, or Canada... anywhere cooler. The heat didn't stop us from getting Beth moved into her new house.Click here to read the rest of the post....more

Summer 2011 in Texas was hot.  Really hot.  Dry up the lakes and crack the land hot.  Even in Florida it was hot, but had the added discomfort of humidity.  Not just were you hot, you were melting. There once was a time when I would have preferred to be hot over cold.  I could get chilled to the point that my stomach would shiver and then it was impossible to get warm enough to make it stop.<...more

Red Hot Chicken Bites

sometimes even if you're up a creek WITH a paddle, you're still screwed

Sunday was the quintessential long day. we busted out of the house for a float trip. just my husband and i and twenty(ish) drunkards. who knew just how canoe capable one can be after a 12 pack and no breakfast?? i am not speaking of myself btw as i only enjoyed one frosty summer drink before losing the rest to the river gods (story forthcoming). it was supposed to be a simple three to four hour float followed by a bar-bq....more

Things that make me say &*#42$@!

Ok, so I am cussing an awful lot today. I’m really a big, sweet, cuddly teddy bear most days, so why is it that everything is pissing me off right now?? Is it me, or is it them?  As part of my job I have to do a good bit of event planning....more

From Young Hot Chicks to Mother Hens

This was going to be a ‘fluff’ piece – not that I write fluff pieces you understand – but it was going to be a lighthearted look at how we transition from girlhood to womanhood and leave behind the best of our years for the world of the ‘grown ups’.  If, indeed, one considers girlhood the best of our years. Certainly, the female plumbing worked a little better back then, and meaningful decisions centred around what colour lipstick to wear to get us noticed in Biology class. But then something happened....more
