Today Polaris Project sent out a tweet:
"Be a North Star, let your voice be heard, write about why human trafficking matters to you".
I want to tell you why it's important to me.
I know freedom
Black Friday is approaching and shopping lists are being made. If you want to spend your holiday dollars on beautiful gifts that help others, I have a few suggestions.
You can help survivors of human trafficking by purchasing from the following stores:

Dubbed “Operation Cross-Country” the FBI in the United States launched a massive mission to rescue trafficked teens in 76 cities. Rescuing over 100 teens and a child as young as nine-years-old plus arresting 150 pimps was considered a success. With federal, state and local partnerships this 72 hour sting sent a message but this is just the tip of the iceberg....more
For the last year, I've been trying to get my head around different aspects of human trafficking and the commercial sexual exploitation of minors. I've been meeting with a variety of relevant actors, including anti-trafficking advocates, law enforcement officers, researchers, and sex workers. It’s here! It’s time. The ANNOUNCEMENT. The big reveal!
You already know I’m headed for Europe and in my last post, I promised to tell you when I was given 100%-amen-sure confirmation on the country I’ll be working in. On November 1, 2008 Soroptimist International of the Americas Camino Real Region held their annual Fall District Workshop that covered women’s issues with a “driving” twist. The day was jam-packed with activities and guest speakers who discussed health issues, self defense training and human sexual trafficking. The event was hosted by Soroptimist International (SI) of Santa Clarita Valley in Valencia, California. Soroptimist is an international volunteer organization of professional women whose mission is to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world. As Governor of Camino Real Region I was very proud to take part in such a meaningful event.
