Flu... and the oddness of life.

This is a bit of an odd, out of place sort of post, and I'm just finding my feet here, so I'm not at all sure what I should and shouldn't be posting, but hey, I'm just posting about me and my thoughts here at the moment....more

"Bundle Up Or You'll Catch a Cold" and Why We Really Get Sick

Why is it that we seem to catch more colds in the winter, then? ...more

Summer Colds are the Worst

Formosa, Cricket, Influenza.“Mom?” Seven year old Ian screamed bloody murder as he ran through the house, his big brother Auden right behind him.  “Mom!”  They slammed open the screen door and exploded out on the back porch, a ball of fists and feet.  The fight was over quickly; eleven year old Auden was bigger.   He landed a fist in Ian’s left eye and Ian howled. Swine Flu, Seasonal Flu, and Vaccinations: Should You Worry?

I happen to believe in vaccinations, and I'm a big believer in the flu shot. I like to tell the story this way: We never got flu shots until the year when the entire family was felled by flu, one by one. It took a full month to run through our home, by which time three of the four of us had experienced secondary infections. ...more

by Shelley SingerI find myself today in a foreign land, a threatening land, a land of anxiety and of disorientation, a place where I must relinquish control, a place I will call “Surrenderstan.” It is not in an exotic location. You can get there by touching the handle of a grocery cart, by sitting next to the wrong person on the subway, by going to the theater or to a ballgame. I got here via the flu, to whose control I was forced to submit, kicking and screaming all the way....more

Flu shots and you

Get the facts. Then get the shot.

What's your take on the H1N1 vaccine? According to the latest issue of The New Yorker, it was a health department worker in my own city whose comments led to a widespread panic about the H1N1 vaccine. Then, "38% of parents oppose new [H1N1} vaccine," my city's paper announced this week. Okay, here's the thing.  Well, here's three things: ...more
