So let's assume that you have pared your closet down to the basics. You have a wardrobe of pieces that work for your everyday life. And while some part of you is thinking THANK GOD, there is another part that is already bored.
Am I right?

Now that your closet is clean (your closet IS clean, isn't it?), it's time to talk about basic wardrobing pieces. The basics are the building blocks of your wardrobe, essential pieces that you can mix and match with virtually everything else in your closet to create a look that will work every day. The basics are NOT a complete wardrobe by themselves, although you CAN wear them together; instead, think of them as a foundation that you can use to build a look that is distinctly yours.
Let's start with the most basic of basics: the white shirt and blue jeans.

I've been browsing the trends for Fall 2007, and right now, this outfit, from J. Crew, is my favorite "new" look.

My husband has been interviewing with a company across the country. In a few weeks the company will be flying the two of us out to check out the housing and schools. And so I ask, What should I wear? Some info that might help: I am 5'7", 34 D and a bit of a gut, but not a problem if I wear my spanx. Fair skin, dark brown short hair. I am 30 years old and would love something I'd actually be able to wear again, with two babies (well 2 & 4 -they are still babies, right?) I usually slump around in stained t-shirts and worn out jeans. I don't think they'll cut it.

I'm a big believer in personal style, in finding a look that works for you and truly owning it. I'm also sold on the idea that getting dressed in the morning should NOT be the most difficult part of your day. Pulling together an appropriate, comfortable, stylish outfit should be simple, particularly if you have a closet full of clothes that fit your body and your lifestyle and a good sense of what looks great on you.
