There's nothing like a politician admitting that he got it on with a woman who is not his (powerful) wife to provide an opportunity to explore gender roles and sexuality. Many of us thought that the Elliot Spitzer debacle was a ripe opening to talk about the suffocating Madonna/whore dichotomy that women (and men) suffer through.

Michelle Obama and Sen. Hillary Clinton will headline the first two nights pf the Democratic National Convention, accordng to a statement from the Convention organizers. The Convention will take place August 25-28 in Denver, Colorado. As is customary, the Vice-Presidential nominee will speak on the 27th and Obama will make his nomination acceptance speech on the last night of the convention at the city's famous Mile-High stadium.
As an ardent John Edwards supporter, today is a sad day for me as he announces he is dropping out of the race for the White House.
My colleague Mary Katharine Ham hit the nail on the head when she dubbed Saturday night’s Democratic debate in New Hampshire as a competition to be the “changiest.” No doubt, change is it. Some bloggers I know have a drinking game where they down a shot whenever Giuliani mentions “9-11.” Perhaps I should start one where each mention of the c-word merits a shot.
Saturday night’s debate hall was an electric environment no doubt. The highlight of my evening came while Elizabeth Edwards was “spinning” for Edwards after the debate. She was mobbed by reporters, but as she was on her way out, I stepped up and asked her for a photo, "for BlogHer", and Elizabeth stopped and broke into a smile - "Anything for BlogHer!" she said. So cool. Mrs. Edwards, if you ever decide to run…

Facing Oprah and Obama, the O-O! whammy, Hillary Clinton brought her own powerhouses to Iowa yesterday, and I don't mean Bill and his charisma. She greeted crowds with her 88-year-old mother Dorothy Rodham and 27-year-old daughter Chelsea Clinton by her side. Multiple journalists, bloggers, and pundits conclude America's only female presidential candidate hoped to weaken "the Oprah effect", America's most powerful talk-show host and possible king-maker crowning Barack Obama as "the one*."

What's your opinion of the different presidential candidates' spouses? Does your opinion of Bill Clinton (as potential First Gentleman), Elizabeth Edwards, Michelle Obama or Ann Romney factor into how your feel about their running spouses at all?
I want Hillary Clinton to be the next president (because she takes the lead on policies like these ). But I harbor no illusions that she is a “change” candidate. Two recent stories only serve to confirm this. Both leave me a with a bad taste in my mouth…metallic, like money. Like lots of corporate money given to Clinton and her advisors. As Barbara at MahaBlog notes, big money has been edging over to Democrats recently (be sure to read Paul Krugman’s column here).
But Hillary’s fake farmer lunch kind of takes the cake. ABC’s Jake Tapper
writes of an upcoming Clinton campaign briefing for “Rural Americans.” The catch is it’s being held at Monsanto’s Washington, DC lobbying firm.
You read that right: Monsanto, about which there are serious questions about its culpability regarding 56 Superfund Sites, wanton and "outrageous" pollution, and the decidedly unkosher (and quite metaphoric) genetically-bred "Superpig."
…A company that the website "Ethical Investing" labels "the world's most unethical and harmful investment."…
This week, in Important Political News, we learned that Hillary Clinton has breasts, that John McCain is blaming his campaign woes on his gay sweaters, and that John Edwards requires a LOT of hair spray. And while it is difficult to fight the urge to say WHO CARES?
