Today is Election Day and in my state, it is a huge deal as our Governor, Lt. Governor and Attorney General seats are up this time. Virginia does not allow consecutive terms for these positions, so every four years we go through the political campaign rigmarole. We go back and forth between parties for governor every four to eight years depending on national politics and the races for our General Assembly....more
This morning Republican Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney will announce Paul Ryan as his running mate and in doing so appears to be declaring war against everything that the Democratic Party stands for. With the choice of Paul Ryan, Romney will not only be exacerbating the culture wars, but he appears to have set his sights on two of the great presidents of the Twentieth Century: FDR (The New Deal) and LBJ (The Great Society), indeed, the great shift of the Twentieth Century back to the people....more

You will always find someone who is a lot like you."
There are times when I get angry about how we as a country choose to solve serious problems. We call it a compromise. I think it is more like whack-a-mole. We expend a lot of energy in doing something close to nothing more than is necessary to play the next level of the game. The compromise on the unemployment extension and maintenance of the Bush tax cuts does not solve problems.
"Being stupid is its own reward." ~UnknownI'll admit, we do live in the country with the most freedoms today. I try to be grateful for that, but it's tough. I look back on our Constitution and it both saddens and angers me as to what has happened to that wonderful document over the years. We've lost sight of what it was supposed to do and mean for the American people....more
Anyone who knows me personally knows that I'm not a conspiracy theorist. I have a pretty good head on my shoulders and I don't buy into a lot of those really "out there" theories and beliefs. I am, however, open to self-education, new ideas and thoughts. I am always willing to consider a possibility before discarding one....more
