New month. New start.

August just started, which wipes the slate clean for another 31 days. With each new month, we get another opportunity to build a new, healthy habit, break an old, bad habit, try new things and find ways to grow and learn.I can’t believe it’s already August. This year is seemingly flying by, and it feels like I was just celebrating New Years, and then just celebrating my birthday. Now here we are, kids are getting ready to go back to school and fall is right around the corner (yay!)....more

5 Reasons Why I'd Rather Be 28 Than 18

Jonathan and I will have been together for 10 years this November. Ten years! That is over a third of my life. I've been thinking a lot recently about how I have changed over the last 10 years, and I think I've changed quite a bit, in mainly good ways. Holly Love at 28 is a different person than Holly Gushee was at 18. ...more

29 - The Year of Crushing Goals

It’s hard to believe that I’ve entered the last year of my twenties. I have to constantly remind myself that I am an adult. And I have been adult for several years. There are times when I still feel like I just turned 21, and I don’t have a worry in the world, but in reality, I’m in my late-twenties, with bills to pay, a wedding to plan and a full-time career.29 is shaping up to be a pretty big year with our upcoming wedding and our goal to purchase a home of our own. We have a lot to look forward too....more

13 Things I Can Say That Taylor Swift Can’t Even Though We Are the Same Age

Taylor Swift's new album, 1989, came out on October 27th. It was a very Monday feeling Monday so I ran to my local Target, bought the deluxe version, and have been blasting Taylor's album during my commute for the past two weeks. One of the first things that struck me about 1989, other than how catchy it was, was how Taylor reminisces about Polaroids. (Fun fact: the deluxe album gives you a random pile of Polaroids "from Taylor" to enjoy.) ...more

That List of Mine!

Did you make a to-do list in January?Progress on my mondo 2014 list is coming along nicely. Some changes have been made and some Whiteout has been used; but we all know that saying about life and making plans. I have taken the GRE; but have decided to put off applying to graduate school until 2015. Amazing how a snow storm makes you re-evaluate how much free time you will have for studying with a three year old in the house....more

Goals For The Next Five Years

I've been trying to convince myself to just up and delete my OkCupid profile. I just seem to have this issue with up and deleting things, though. Nevermind having a somewhat sentimental attachment to the service because several people that I consider to be close friends were met as a result of answering messages on that site and then subsequently going on dates. ...more

Me, A Writer?

If you were around me for very long, you would soon equate me to a spinning top. I am very focused but can veer off on a random trail very quickly and with as much focus. My husband calls me a whirling dervish and shakes his head often, in my direction. A longstanding relationship with someone like me would show you that we are effective, just in a very ‘around the bush and in the backdoor’ sort of way. ...more

It's Saturday and you know what that means...

It's Saturday and you know what that means... once again I found it quite difficult to attend my 7AM weight watchers meeting. I was convinced that I hadn't lost any weight & when I weighed myself before I left it looked like I had actually gained! ...more
