Are You Who You've Always Been?

Hi All,Now that I’m solidly in my forty’s - and how the hell did that happen?? - I've beenpondering this question:  Am I who I've always been - just older?I know, it's a philosophical question and most of you were probably expecting ajoke.  But I'm serious.  Do we change over time?  By that, I mean, do ourpersonalities evolve as we get older.  Do our experiences change us?  Or, oncepuberty is over are we done?  Is that it?  At twenty, is our basic personality,...more

Health Insurance is Killing Me

Where do I start?  The fact that I am uninsurable because an endocrinologist wrongfully diagnosed me with Pituitary Dwarfism or that I am uninsurable and can’t get treatment for possible breast cancer because of the wrongful diagnosis.  I have a family history of breast cancer. ...more

I THINK I Believe in Being Positive. Maybe (Barefoot on the Ground)

Oh, Lord, I believe, help thou my unbelief" used to be one of my favorite prayers--along with "Send my roots rain," and "please, please, please let there be enough money in my account to cover that last check."  (I don't know if it's true there are no atheists in foxholes, but I'm pretty damn sure there aren't too many the day before payday when you really needed that check two days earlier.)...more

The Single Girl's Whine

Every now and again I have to let loose a bit and whine about men. (Sorry, boys.) It's a way to let off some steam about being single and dateless before I end up picking outside of eHarmony's headquarters. (For the record, they've rejected me three times. I fully believe it's because I'm fat. Their so-called personality test is more about how physically fit and active you are, not your personality at all.) I think what has made it harder on women is feminism, the sexual revolution, and technology. ...more

How Often Do YOU Have Sex?

Well ladies, I feel like we haven’t covered sex in a while, so we’re well overdue! Last night after proudly watching my son’s hockey practice, I went to dinner with my baby group girlfriends. It’s very nice; the same group of 8 girls I started a baby group with six years ago, I still dine with on a monthly basis. I always come home with a few good laughs for my hubby. Really....more

Leonid Meteor Shower: Impact?

I know this is an annual event (my husband just tonight alerted me to it's impending appearance)--the Leonid meteor shower--but I am still reeling from the video we saw last night, a 3-hour production made from the TV mini-series, "Impact." ...more

On The Fence About Having Another Kid?

Well Ladies, some good news happened to me when my sister-in-law got hitched about two weeks ago. The pressure from my in-laws to have another child was finally lifted off of my head, and so nicely placed upon my sis-in-law’s precious head. “Have another baby. Try for a GIRL. C’mom. You can do it. I heard there’s ways. You have sex before you ovulate. Missionary position. Oh ya, and don’t forget to douche.”...more

The Woe of Missing Writing While Moving

As much as I love my new home, since I can hang my clothes in a closet now, I missed writing my articles. I never realized how much writing is a part of my spirit, until these past few days. Not that I am not completely happy at my new location, but sometimes responsibilities can really be draining on your desires! ...more

As a teen I was always proud to say - I don't drink milk.  Diet Coke was was drink of choice.  Every calorie was viewed by me as an investment on my backside - one that I didn't need because I was bored looking like Jennifer Lopez at 30. I was looking backward when I should've been looking forward. To my horror, I discovered at 50, that peak bone mass is achieved by age 16 for women and that the critical time to do that bodybuilding was during puberty when I was conserving calories for gravy and fries.  ...more
