Dear Madonna

Dear Madonna, What a great example you were for young girls when you erupted from the shadows with "Star light" some 20+ years ago. (Or so I thought) You were original, appeared self- confident, and refused to compromise who and what you represented....more

Well, another Super Bowl is done and I can’t say I’m happy with the result. It was a great game, though, and my husband sure is happy. If only Wes Welker caught that pass. If only Tom Brady didn’t start the game off with an intentional grounding/safety. If only… ...more

Motivational Monday #2

Last night the NY Giants won the Super Bowl; I guess they wanted it more!  I'm not a fan of either team, so I didn't really care who won.  I guess I was pulling for the Giants.  Chris won $60.00 on the last quarter for the score on these square things. I thought I would do a recap of my favorite commercials.  I mean after all, that's the main reason why I watch the Super Bowl.  I really liked the Chevy truck ad (not sure why) and the M&M Ad was cute. ...more

Ashton Kutcher Versus the Village Voice: Why Numbers and Language Matter in Social Causes

Last week closed with a violent feud between the Village Voice and Ashton Kutcher, who has joined the ranks of celebrity philanthropists. The Voice, which has been under attack for continuing to allow users to post ads advertising adult services, pointed out in their cover story last week that the numbers Kutcher uses to rally support for his foundation are grossly exaggerated, leading the star to retaliate by contacting its advertisers on Twitter accusing the publication of being a "Digital Brothel." It got ugly, but the Voice raised a good point. Here's a closer look. ...more

Gaga Ain't No Lady

I’m a little late on this one, I know.  Actually, what I’m about to discuss has been bothering me for a while and really reached a peak at the American Idol Finale a couple of weeks back.  I had decided to just let it go, just move on, but I can’t.  I have to “Express Myself” (note the Madonna reference) and then, hopefully, I can get on with my life. It seems that everybody is ‘gaga’ over Lady Gaga right now.  That is no surprise.  I’ve been on the planet long enough now to recognize a marketing phenomenon when I see one.  They come, some stay, som...more

Yikes, thankfully, I missed that performance.

Like Kids, Pets, Africa? There’s a Charity for That!

I hate to sound like a broken record - but - everybody isn't qualified to run a charity. It is not necessary to start your own corporation to accomplish something or to steer funding to a specific need. At least once a day I receive a call from someone who wants to start a charity to fulfill some personal need or to accomplish a specific project. Others feel they need to do so to appear philanthropic or to use celebrity power to create awareness and large sums for a righteous cause....more
