Special Operations Warrior Foundation Fundraiser

by Gary (my husband)There are countless charitable organizations looking for donations, whether you want to save spotted owls or donate money to further the education of left handed people (we’re a special breed). Most people cherish every dollar they earn, and while they are interested in donating money to a worthy cause, they often don’t know where to start. Another problem is not knowing how much of your money is going to the cause your passionate about and how much is going towards the company overhead....more

On the Road That Connects Us

Last weekend I had the extraordinarily rare opportunity to travel from El Paso, TX to Phoenix, AZ. Total, that’s 900 miles of driving time alone. I can’t even believe it happened even looking back on it. I was alone. No kids. No husband....more

What Memorial Day Means to Me

Last weekend, I was lying in the bathtub, listening to "Inheritance", and checking our calendar. Up popped my husband's schedule, and right there beneath my husband's notification that he would be out of town on the 27th was a notification of a special Memorial Day baseball game honoring the military. That was when I realized Gary would be out of town for Memorial Day.In the past, we have visited military cemeteries or attended special ceremonies for Memorial Day. For the most part, though, I try to ignore Memorial Day....more

Ramping Up

One of the hardest things about deployments is the time before a deployment. You can't settle into the routine of a deployment. You want to spend every waking moment with your loved one, but chances are, they're working more than ever. Counting this past week, my husband is working four weeks straight, except for one day next weekend. That one day is also the one day he'll be home between two weeks out of town for training. ...more

Truly Appreciated - a Mil-Spouse talks about Act of Valor

There have been few times in my life as a Military Spouse that I have felt truly appreciated.  Appreciated by someone other than my husband and in a way more profound than simply just a "thanks for your service" or a discount from a store.  Not that those things aren't truly appreciated and I am grateful for those things.  Strangers acknowledging your service, along with your husband's is amazing and always brings a smile to my face.  I'm talking about true appreciation.  The kind you can see in the eyes, deep in the soul of the person talking to you.  The kind...more

Military Life

I'm a military kiddo turned military spouse. Yup. I've never known anything outside of military life except for the 3 years after college before I met my husband. I was just talking to the hubs, a few nights ago, about how I don't understand why so many people are fascinated by military life - because for me it's normal life. Because what's fascinating to ME is how someone can grow up with the same people their whole life and live in the same town or state and not move! Now THAT right there is cah-ray-zee! I guess it's just what you know right?!...more

The Toughest Job...and it's not Motherhood.

I married a committed military man. And I have loved this military life. I have also had to put my personal opinions aside, to truly understand that our defenders of freedom are fighting a bigger battle. Not a political one, there battle goes beyond politics. Beyond religion, race or gender....more
