Mother's Day (Part 1)

My first blog is to honor my momma on Mother’s Day. Whenever I read these verses in Proverbs 31, it makes me think the writer, King Solomon, must have known my mother personally….25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness....more

15 Ridiculous Expectations for Mother's Day

There are two days in the year that I look forward to the most, my birthday and Mother’s Day. In my family it is understood that Mom essentially gets these two selfish days off without question. Inevitably something in the plan goes awry and I end up manning the Mother station anyway. ...more

It's that Time Again...

Probably one of the most important (and hardest) days in my year is fastly approaching, and I find myself unprepared... again. Yes, there is less than 2 weeks until Mother's Day... I can't believe how fast this year has flown by....more

Ah Mother's Day

On Mother’s Day I think I can check off feeling every emotion in the book. I wake up thinking, yay it’s Mother’s Day! I get to relax in bed and wait for the world to finally appreciate what a wonderful job of mothering I have done throughout the year.  Ok that was a quick fleeting unrealistic thought.  Then I wonder how my mom felt on mother’s day. Then I realize wait, my mom is gone. She’s missed so much of my life....more

Making it through

The Monday after Mother's Day.  A sigh of relief.  The letting go of held in breath.  Of pinching yourself so you wouldn't cry.  Of brave faces.  Of broken hearts.Mother's Day is not the same for any of us from days past. How I treasure those early years of chubby fingers bringing me dandelions from the yard.  Of hand-print poems framed for the occasion.  Of clip on ties and crisp white shirts little boys wriggled in.  Of bear hugs and wet kisses....more

I Was Your Mom...I Was Your Cheerleader

I was never a cheerleader in school.  You could say I never had the disposition for it...or the athletic ability.  I tried being a booster for a short period of time but that just wasn't for me either.  I was that artsy kid.  I loved my music and books and theater but as soon as I became a mom, I became a cheerleader.  A cheerleader for my kids, that is. When you were born and I looked into your eyes, I knew that I would move heaven and earth for you.I would protect you, guide you and cheer you on throughout the entirety of your life....more

Mommy In Waiting on Mother's Day

Click, click, click.  The sound of the computer keys as I check my email for the tenth time in one hour.  I nervously flip the switch to my cell phone to make sure it's on loud, because I've checked this so many times today that maybe I've accidentally turned it to vibrate mode.  My heart jumps as I hear the email sound emanate from my phone, but it's just another work email.  The silence is deafening....more

Mother's Day in a Global Way

As we come upon Mother's Day I am reminded of the various ways in which we are all mothers, daughters, sisters and ultimately, a productive part of our societies. If you occupy that wonderful place between being a mother and a daughter at the same time, you know how crucial your role is as the mother who empowers the next generation, and the daughter that comforts the one before. You straddle the two worlds where your wisdom propels the aims of the next generation and your compassion validates the work of the last....more
