May 13, 2007, was the last Mother’s Day I celebrated, although I didn’t know it at the time. I have a hard time recalling what we did. The memory, nine years later, clouded by the passage of time. That fall my Mother passed away from cancer. Her battle was over; mine was just starting....more
For three-hundred-sixty-five days a year, it is Mother’s Day. No sick days. No lazy Sundays. No Netflix and Chill days. I don’t want Mother’s Day. I want a Mental Health Day.Suspend your disbelief, mothers (you’ll know which parts):It is the morning of Mother’s Day. I am still sleeping. No one crawled into my bed last night. No one screamed at 3 a.m. because she heard a bug in her room. Uninterrupted sleep at its best....more
I am blessed to be a mother. I am blessed that my own mother is still living and I can call her, email her, text her, chat with her, etc. any time. At the time of this writing, I still have two living grandmothers, though one is not doing well and is technically my dad's second mother. I never met my mother-in-law, as she passed away eight years ago, just before I reconnected with my husband, mere months before we married. ...more
What do most moms really want for Motherís Day? Not greeting cards (unless they're homemade by the kiddos) Not chocolates or even flowers. While mom's love spending time with family, all of us crave spending some time unplugged from our day in day out routines, taking a break from being the constant caregiver for the family. I'm not saying we don't love spending quality time with our precious children but sometimes you just need some time to focus on yourself, taking time out to empower your inner spirit....more
My favorite memory of my mother (Nanay in Filipino) is her love for plants and flowers. Writing is to me as taking care of a plant is to her. And my story tells how her love of plants made me cry and how she would poke fun whenever I do....more
Mother’s Day: A tradition of brunches, spring bouquets and heart-felt cards.
Like most moms, I appreciate the effort put into the day by my family. I enjoy the annual breakfast gathering. It’s very lovely. It’s very traditional.
But, maybe this year I want to celebrate non-traditionally. How about you? Are you interested in spending the day with your mom or daughter enjoying something you both love outside of quiche and mimosas?
If so, read on for 10 Awesome Mother’s Day Ideas!
Before I even get into this post, I need to type some words to all my amazing friends who have struggled with infertility or have lost a child. This day is inexpressibly difficult and I want you all to know that I love you and that you are not forgotten. And to those of you who have recently lost your mom, I am especially thinking of you. You know who you are....more
My first blog is to honor my momma on Mother’s Day. Whenever I read these verses in Proverbs 31, it makes me think the writer, King Solomon, must have known my mother personally….25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness....more
There are two days in the year that I look forward to the most, my birthday and Mother’s Day. In my family it is understood that Mom essentially gets these two selfish days off without question. Inevitably something in the plan goes awry and I end up manning the Mother station anyway.
