How eBay Helped Us Buy Our Home

You know the saying “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure?” Well, for me, the saying should go “One family’s junk that is sold on eBay makes for a nice contribution to a house down payment.”...more

Move-r your Froogler: Moving sanely on a dime

 1.       Make a budget – and routinely re-evaluate itThis is the most boring, but the most necessary of undertakings.  Moves are full of surprises, so try to anticipate them.  Other than the rent/down payment on your new place, what else do you need to lay out money for?  Can you get enough boxes and wrapping papers free?  Will you have to buy supplies (boxes, stuffing, tape)?  Will you need any new furniture when you get there? ...more

Why My Next Trip To Publix Could Land Me In Jail

I have been absolutely exhausted this week. I had forgotten how tiring packing for a move can be.It is a vicious cycle. I go to bed on time, only to lay awake thinking of all of the things that need to be done. How am I going to pack my fine china? What about my books? You can only pack so many in a box before you need someone with the strength of Hercules to pick it up. If some of my antique collectibles get broken I’m going to go all Southern girl craaazy on someone. My blood pressure rises at the thought....more

How do you say goodbye?

Most of us had to deal with this in childhood: You find an amazing friend, a best friend. One you played with all the time. Someone who understood you, who liked you, who always wanted to hang out with you. Nothing could ever come between you...At least, until one of you moved away.I still remember how upset I got when a girl who lived on my street moved to Ohio when I was six-years-old. I cried for days. It was awful! Now I have to figure out how to help my child with Asperger's say goodbye....more

Moving Really Is a Nightmare!

This whole process started 4 or 5 years ago. I lost count a couple of years back. It's been a long journey but it is almost over.We were transferred to South Carolina from Tennessee. Before that, from Texas to Tennessee. My husband works for a world-wide company whose headquarters originated in Irving, Texas. When the company bought another competitors' company, the decision was made to move the headquarters to Ashland City, Tennessee. UGH! Ashland City is north and west of Nashville. I'm a Texas girl and leaving Texas was a very hard thing for me to do....more

You know what? There IS life after elections!

Okay, the elections are over! And there really is life after elections. I poured a lot of my heart and soul into the promotion of my personal candidate. I tolerated the negativity, the name calling, the out and out lies - from both sides....more

A Restful Weekend - Much Needed

It's Sunday night and I'm sitting with my feet propped up in front of the television. My husband said he was going to fix supper. I'm still waiting. :-) At 7:45 p.m., it's past supper time and I'm ready to eat. Darn it!...more

Wayback Machine - Finding Community

Back in September of last year, after selling our house in Victoria, my husband and I flew to Windsor for a one-week whirlwind house-buying adventure in our soon-to-be new city. During the days that followed the accepted offer on what was to become our next home, we were tasked with several responsibilities which included arranging for home insurance. After a couple of false starts I was able to find a local agent who was associated with our existing insurance provider, and we headed over to his office to make the necessary arrangements. ...more

A little background...

A little background... about me, my life, and why I started this blog. I have been a financial advisor for a little over a year now. I started in Reno, NV, and received the opportunity to move to St Louis to work out of our Headquarters for six months. I jumped at the opportunity and was able to get my life packed up in 10 days and move! I promised myself I would focus solely on learning as much as I could in six months... this means no dating, no boys, nothing!...more
