Fall's Returning TV Shows: What's Cool, What's Crappy

Ah fall! When the weather gets colder, the leaves turn pretty colors and the DVR overheats from taping so many of the Fall TV shows. A couple of weeks ago I told you what returning shows I was waiting for like a kid on Christmas morning, and now that I've seen a few, I'm here to report back on What's Cool and What's Crappy. ...more

The 2008 Fall TV Season: Thrills, Chills and Do-Overs

Grab the remotes, Folks! It's the 2008 Fall TV Season and shows are coming at us faster than political shots from Obama and McCain. Or Tina Fey and Sarah Palin. Or Biden and...you get what I mean. Between the new shows and the returning shows, my DVR and I are working hard to bring you, dear BlogHer readers, all the info there is to know about what's good or will be good this fall.  There's even a show about me, Megan Smith.  Well, sort of...but more on that in a minute. ...more

NBC's Beijing Olympics Coverage: Thumbs Up Or Thumbs Down?

We're halfway through the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics so it's time to rate NBC's coverage.  First a caveat, I haven't seen every single hour of the coverage, but really, who has?  My opinion based on the many hours I have watched?  For once, I'll give them a thumb that's almost pointing up.  Some thoughts: ...more

The Beijing Olympics Online: A Sports Smorgasbord

As I write this post I'm watching live Olympic tennis. American James Blake is in the deciding third set against Dominic Hrbaty of Slovakia and it's tied 3-3.  I'm not watching this match on television.  I'm watching it live online.  That's right, live streaming of Olympic events have come into their own with the Beijing Games, and the first and best stop for all your action is NBC's Olympic Website. The team that put this site together deserves a medal of their own because it has just about anything an Olympics sports fan could want. As long as you stay within NBC's restrictions that is.  ...more

The Baby Borrowers – Birth Control? Not Quite…

First off – I love this show. Watching teenagers cope with kids touches the black, dark part of my heart that laughs when people trip. Ok, I don’t really laugh when people trip unless they’re wearing four-inch Manolos or Christian Laboutin shoes (the $400 shoes with the red soles so everyone knows they cost an arm and a leg.) So I may be a bad person, but I’m a normal bad person not the “I laugh at old people” bad person. Shades of gray, my friends, shades of gray... ...more

The Baby Borrowers: Reality TV gone too far?

NBC's new reality show "The Baby Borrowers" takes five teenage couples through a crash course in adulthood tasking them with responsibilities such as a house payment, a job, and for three days, the care of a baby (and later, a toddler, pre-teen and elderly person). Many bloggers and others are up in arms over infants being separated from their parents for so long for a so-called "social experiment" saying it is irresponsible television and some have even called it child abuse. ...more

The TV Junkie’s Strike Survival Guide

It's the eighth week of the strike by the Writers Guild of America against the movie and television studios---or as David Letterman likes to call them the "cowards, cutthroats and weasels"---and things are starting to look dire for dedicated TV junkies. The holidays are over, the families have gone home and TV junkies everywhere will be feeling the withdrawal effects of no fresh episodes of their favorite shows any day now.  It'll start when you find yourself clicking your remote channel after channel and finding nothing but lame game shows and even lamer reality shows.  Your chest will tighten, your breathing will come fast and shallow and you'll break out in a cold sweat. There's no "24," there's no "Grey's Anatomy," there's no "House," there's no "CSI!"  Don't panic.  It's TV Junkie Withdrawal. ...more
