Children's Birthday Parties with a Purpose

Quaker Snack Bars has created Birthday Party with a Purpose Kits in partnership with Kids Care Clubs. Kids Care Clubs are a program of the HandsOn Network whose mission is to, "develop compassion and to inspire a spirit of volunteering in elementary and middle school age youth."

This week in NTEN's Nonprofit Blogging Affinity Group, a new member asked for a list of nonprofit blogs. "Nonprofit Blogs" can actually be divided into two categories: blogs written by nonprofits, and blogs about nonprofit-related topics that are written by individuals who aren't necessarily affiliated with a specific organization.  They may even be written by a consultant or business that serves nonprofits.

What Can I Do About Genocide? An Interview with Janessa Goldbeck

One of the world's challenges that disturbs me the most is genocide. Perhaps it is because my generation was raised reading The Diary of Anne Frank and watching dozens of movies about the Holocaust. Over and over we were told, someone should have said something. Someone should have done something. If it happens again, you need to do something.

The Collaboration Prize: $250,000 for Nonprofits That Collaborate, Not Compete

According to Nonprofitist.org's post, How Many International Nonprofits Can You Count? there are 1.4 million nonprofits in the United States. Charity Governance reports that, "For the period from October 1, 2006 through September 30, 2007 (fiscal year 2007), the IRS received 85,771 applications for recognition of Section 501(c)(3) status." That's a lot of nonprofits, many that are doing similar work and competing for funding from foundations and individual donors. To celebrate, and learn about best practices in nonprofit collaborations, the Lodestar Foundation has launched a $250,000 Collaboration Prize:
