Domestic Violence Awareness Month a Year After the Hudson Murders

Last year during national Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and I mean exactly one year ago on October 28, 2008, I wrote about one of the most disturbing cases with a connection to domestic violence the nation had seen in a while. A tale of horror unfolded, the murders of the mother, brother and young nephew of acclaimed actress and singer Jennifer Hudson. The alleged perpetrator, her sister's estranged husband William Balfour, was later arrested. ...more

Part II: Even Without Free Trial Offers The Scams For Acai Berry Continue

With the free trial offers for acai berry now under attack by the attorney generals of several states not to mention a huge lawsuit by Oprah and Dr. Oz, you might think that all those online promotions for acai berry supplements would now be on the up and up. One would think....more

The Mile High Club

A flight attendant on Oprah Winfrey's private jet filed a lawsuit Friday denying allegations that she had sex on board. In the suit, Corrine Gehrls, 39, claims that fellow flight attendants Myron Gooch and Kirby Bumpus -- who is the daughter of Winfrey's best friend Gayle King and is Winfrey's goddaughter -- made the accusation that caused her to be fired.--Huffington Post ...more

In my opinion the most curious part of that story is how in the world Gayle King thought it ...more

The Breast Intervention

The Breast Intervention Editor’s note: This is a guest post from Kim Sisto Robinson. All right gals, here’s the dilemma. Half of us are wearing the wrong size bra. That’s right. We’re sauntering around town with sagging, wobbling, drooping boobies and let me tell you…it’s not a pretty sight. Women in America are swinging their ta-tas from side to side like old elephant trunks and it has officially become a crisis situation. ...more

Oprah Called

“What I know for sure is what you give comes back to you.” --Oprah Winfrey I guess it’s inevitable when working in PR to find yourself in a room with clients who ask you to get them or their products on Oprah. Nationally, 7.4 million people watch Oprah every day. Her support of a product, service or even political candidate can translate into huge results. Naturally people are interested in getting onto that set, sitting beside Oprah on that leather couch, and basking in her seemingly Midas touch. ...more

Herman and Me: Writing the story behind the controversial Rosenblat Holocaust memoir "hoax"

Just finished writing The Apple, based on the Holocaust memoir "hoax" by Herman Rosenblat, who was a two-time guest on Oprah. The book will be publisher September 1, 2009. It's a subject that really polarizes people. Some people villify Herman for embelishing his memoir, others are sympathetic. I ask people to read what happened to him during the War and then to judge. No one gets a pass but it's important to understand where people are coming from. I don't have the answers, I only have the questions. I would like to hear what other people. ...more

Oprah's Health Advice: Take it or leave it?

I'm not a lover (or a hater) of the Oprah Show, when she has something I'm interested in I watch, otherwise I don't. Since I write about health and wellness, I do tend to be more interested in her health related shows. Now there is a Newsweek article addressing her many controversial and sometimes misleading health related shows. No surprise, there are a lot of women blogging about whether or not Oprah's advice is good advice. ...more

Who’s Mad at Elizabeth Edwards?

I love Elizabeth Edwards, and I'm mad at her. I’m seriously biased towards this brilliant woman who has faced so many hardships with dignity and grace. Many of us at BlogHer had a thing for Mrs. Edwards; she spoke at the Conference in 2007 and was available for calls. ...more
