L'Oreal: Are you worth animal cruelty?

Each morning after I wake up, I have a pre-day routine (1) stretch, (2) brush my teeth, (3) make my coffee and (4) plop down in front of my laptop. I was glancing at my Facebook feed when this image was thrown in my face:  ...more

Harnessing Social Media to Effect Change

The Internet hasn't replaced all those traditional grassroots means for getting word out about a cause and rallying people together to react, but it has certainly enhanced people's ability to mobilize. The message is taken in during a time that works with the receiver's schedule. You can reach an enormous amount of people at once. And, most importantly, people become more invested because they aren't just signing their name and moving on; they can take an active role, forwarding the message to others. ...more

Circus Animals: Performers or Prisoners?

Late last month, the Vienna-based owner of the Ringling Bros. circus agreed to pay a $270,000 fine to the U.S. Department of Agriculture to settle allegations that it violated federal animal-welfare laws in its handling of elephants, tigers, zebras and other exotic animals....more
I haven't been to a circus since I was a very small child and I would never go to one again. ...more

My Beef with PETA

My sixteen year old daughter, who is the Head Vegetarian of our tribe, recently received a packet of propaganda information from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). It was a sharp, well-put together production, complete with sweet, cartoon stickers of baby chicks proclaiming "I am not a nugget," and photos of bloody, maimed animals suffering on factory farms. I gathered from the overall tone, style, and shininess, that this information packet was specifically targeted at teens and tweens....more

I agree with you for the most part about PETA. I disagree with many of their tactics. They say ...more

Dear PETA: Please lose the blubber from your collective brains

Hey, if you live in Jacksonville, Florida, you may have already seen PETA's latest billboard, which depicts an overweight woman spilling out of her bikini and underneath "Save the Whales" declares, "Lose the blubber: Go vegetarian." Image: Peta.org ...more

It would appear tht PETA is not the only one to associate large women with whales. I recently ...more

Ringling v. PETA: Elephant Debate Heats Up

Today's mail brought a bright colorful advertisement for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey show, "Zing Zang Zoom", coming to my friendly neighborhood coliseum. Unfortunately, I have also been reading the wires, articles, blogs and tweets about an undercover PETA video that shows Ringling's employees mistreating elephants. Not great timing for the circus.  ...more

Loved your post on this issue. Our timing is incredible. We'll probably wear the same outfit ...more

Bulls v. Nudes in Pamplona - Ole!

Time again for the 'encierro', where brave-dumb men run with the bulls in the streets of Pamplona, Spain - a exercise in bravado made famous by Ernest Hemingway's "The Sun Also Rises" and "Death in the Afternoon." Just two days prior, the town also hosts an alternative: PETA's Running of the Nudes protest parade to end bullfighting. The combo makes for an interesting kick-off to the nine-day festival of San Fermin. ...more

PETA certainly has the right to protest, just like any group or any individual, for that ...more

More Kids Going Veggie

'Kids these days,' as the lament goes, 'don't even know milk comes from a cow.' Well, the jig is up and thanks to our friend, the Internet, kids not only know where milk comes from, but they are discovering where cheeseburgers come from - LOLcats not included. The result? A rise in the number of young vegetarians and vegans.  ...more
