The decade from the late '80s to the mid '90s was the flyest era ever for young, black America! Yeah, I know I sound like somebody’s Big Mama, but I’m so serious. Black folks were at their dopest. Places like Detroit (Waddup doe?), Chicago, Boston, New York, Los Angeles and Miami were, collectively, stepping up their game and repping black beauty, love and power to the fullest.
Facebook’s “people you may know” feature is alternatingly annoying and creepy.The SOTFs (Same Old Tired Faces) dance across my screen daily, urging me to send “friend requests” to people with whom I have little in common, have never heard of or, in some cases, have made a point of not engaging.Yes, I know “Frank” and I have 59 mutual friends, so Facebook figures we must know each other. But we don’t. Never met him in person or online. As far as I can tell, we’ve never even commented on the same posts. Not friending Frank....more
Most times, when I hear of a celebrity death, I feel a vague sort of sadness. A little sorrow at a wasted life if it's got something to do with drugs. It's sort of a passing emotion - like you'd feel for an innocent stranger as you pass a fatal car accident - and I don't dwell on it. ...more
