Michelle Obama knows that the best way to get kids to eat their vegetables is to involve them in choosing what they eat. On July 9th, we were there for the 2013 Kids State Dinner. This event started last year, and it's part of the Let's Move initiative. 54 kids were chosen for the Kids State Dinner because they had very healthy recipes. They came to celebrate their work and present it to the public.
If you watched President Obama's State of the Union address last night, you heard his strongest words yet on the related issues of climate change and alternative energy. His observation, that "12 of the hottest years have all come in the last 15" makes it clear that he does not intend to skirt the issue in his final term. Don't get me wrong. Some days are ROUGH at Heifer International's headquarters. I come in behind on deadlines, get a bunch of new work piled on me, am pulled into a million directions that change constantly, and often leave late after accomplishing very little. It can be VERY frustrating. ...more

I've been an Obama fan ever since he spoke at the 2004 DNC, and I've
been a supporter since he announced his candidacy for President of the
United States. The only blip was Bill Richardson's short candidacy--and
darn it, I was really hoping for an Obama-Richardson ticket! But
despite those years of fandom and support (both philosophical and
financial), I voted third party this year.
