My Kids Know I’m Santa, and I’m Okay With That

The one thing I thought I had a chance at getting this Christmas was for my kids to believe in all of the magical elements of the holiday for one more year. Santa Claus. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. The Elf of the Shelf. But, since kids sometimes have a way of doing the very opposite of what we want, that wish is now the one thing I know I won’t be receiving. And, much to my surprise, I am okay with that. ...more

Starting Christmas Early This Year

I love Christmas. This isn't news to anyone who knows me. My birthday is very close to Christmas and your birthday and Christmas are the two best things EVER when you're a kid - so like every other kid who celebrates them, a love of my birthday and Christmas is something I've had with me since, well, forever. I just never grew out of it. ...more

He really wants to be a believer in all the holiday fantasies.  He enjoys the magic of all of it. He even had me enabling his beliefs when I ran out on St. Patrick's Day and bought him green gifts so he would think the leprechauns really did visit....more

Up On The Rooftop...

Throughout December, I read with great interest a variety of different views on the Santa myth. I found all the reasons given for the various choices regarding Santa--pass the traditional myth down, debunk it, let the kid kind of decide--fascinating and thought provoking. Now that Christmas is safely over, though, I think it's only fair that I tell you all that I am in possession of conclusive evidence: Santa exists and...he's a vampire....more

In 1897, a young girl named Virginia O'Hanlon lived in New York City. She wrote this letter to the New York Sun. Dear Editor:I am 8 years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus.
