My teenage son looks in the mirror and says “yep, still awesome”. He smiles at himself, combs his hair just so, and moves on with his day.NOTE TO SELF: Harness some of that self-confidence and belief for yourself....more
Ask any woman about the concept of self-acceptance, and she’ll know exactly what you’re talking about. It is a topic that is covered by every talk show host, every woman’s magazine and blog site. We have been told to reject negative self-talk, use positive affirmations on a daily basis, and avoid comparing ourselves to anyone else. ...more
Are we raised, programmed, conditioned to feel guilty...no matter what we do? I've been paying attention to how often I have to fight against feeling bad about something I've done, a choice I've made, or just because I'm not "present in the moment" enough. Thanks, almost entirely to that icon of talk show hosts, Madam O, being present in the moment has become the goal. We must strive to be present, every moment, every day. Anxiety courses through me when more than one person needs me at the same time. For instance, not long ago, two very close friends were having a personal crisis at exactly the same moment. Have you ever just taken a moment and wondered "how in the world did I end up here?" Then at the exact same time be so grateful that you are. To look at my life from the outside I don't think anyone would wanna trade. You know like lunch in 3rd grade where you trade your healthy lunch for a half eaten PB &J with a couple of oreos. Well I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have any takers- right now at least. Me...41 currently pretty fat, getting divorced for the 2nd time, two kids still at home (from my first marrige), uncertainty at my job and living in a giant...more
We all want change. We want to change ourselves, our situation, the world. We may want to change others.Change doesn’t always come in the form we want it. Change happens and we struggle against it, uncertain and fearful. Perhaps we may even want our situation to be what it was.Sometimes we try and try and try for change, only nothing seems to change. We keep repeating the same behavior over and over, waiting for change that never comes....more
