September Beginnings

“Ah, September!  You are the doorway to the season that awakens my soul… but I must confess that I love you only because you are a prelude to my beloved October.”  – Peggy Toney Horton September is here, and I for one am excited!  Per the quote above, I too must admit that my love of September is mainly because it starts the countdown to October.  I LOVE OCTOBER.  No, seriously, I LOVE IT.  But anyhoo -  while September is more of the gateway, I still love it for bringing in the excitement of the season. There are many who wait anxiously for March and the approaching arrival of Spring.  It is a lovely time of year, no argument there.  But for me, September is the time when I come alive.  Autumn is my favorite time of year and September is the first hint of the months to come of yummy sweaters, boots, football games, Halloween, changing leaves, trips to the mountains and warm throw blankets on the couch by the fire with mugs of hot chocolate and tea.  All the familiar scents of pumpkin and cinnamon and just a hint of pine that is lingering out there whispering that the holiday season is coming soon.Forgive me as I wax cheesy over Fall, but like I said, this is my time of year.Autumn is usually a time of harvest and reaping, but many forget it is also a time of preparation.  Preparation for the cold months ahead to make sure that all is ready for the Spring that is to come. You can’t expect to plant seeds in soil that was left deserted and untended the previous season. From a more non-agrarian viewpoint – bikini season doesn’t start in May.  It actually starts, well, now....more

Reflecting on August and Looking Towards September

A new year is coming!

And ever since I can remember, September has always felt like the beginning of my new year - much more so than January ever does - so there's a certain anticipation in the air, as though a fresh start is right around the corner. ...more

Space-Lifts in September

September is a good time for beginnings. We restock kids' backpacks with new school supplies, and we take mental stock of our supplies and spaces. In our family, we're on the verge of a transition in our work arrangements, and adding a workspace to our apartment will facilitate our new groove. Perhaps it's time for you to look at your spaces and evaluate if they are supporting your needs and your dreams for fall. Here are a few things I'm learning along the way: ...more
