I hate shaving. But society tells me that I am repulsive to the visual senses of humanity if my female body is strewn with naturally grown hair. I was treated with repulsion as early as twelve from a group of girls in a New Jersey sleep over camp run by strict Catholic nuns. Diving into the pool in my modest and second-hand one-piece suit, a bunch of girls started laughing at me. They came up to me, jeering, and pointing to the hair that had just begun to grow under my arms. I felt ashamed, and I blamed (yes, you guessed it) my mother for refusing to teach me how to shave my arm pits and legs.
It might be time to slow down, a little bit.I hurt my ankle running last week. Something to do with repetitive stress on the tendons supporting my ankle due to the poor arch supports in my Nike's, and a manufacturing defect in my foot. (Over-pronation, hammer toes, blah, blah, blah). So, I adjusted my workout routine to include more stroke-drills in the pool, and yoga twice a week to try to build/rest/stretch the muscles in tendons in my lower legs....more
What happened to childhood? A new salon trend has girls before they reach puberty getting a "virgin" wax. Sounds outrageous to me. My big question is why? Evidently moms are scheduling virgin waxes for their young girls because they think getting a wax treatment at an early age will prevent future hair growth. That's news to me. I have never heard my pediatrician bring up virgin waxing as an option....more
I guess it is because summer is just around the corner, but lately I’ve been seeing more than a few articles about hair removal. Estheticians don’t just help people with their skin; a big part of our job is hair removal and eyebrow shaping so anytime I see something about hair removal, particularly waxing, I take notice.
