All those vacation days...gone

I am fortunate enough to have an amazing group of people who report into me at work. But I am on their case right now: I want them to take some time off. I'm asking them to look at their calendars from now until the end of the year and plug in the days they want off. I am not worried about being understaffed over the holidays or about them taking days all at once - I am worried that they will not use their vacation days at all....more

Vacationing at home

My son wants to know when we are going on vacation again. It is a subject he is highly interested in as of late. It may be because we've had some really memorable ones as a family and he wants to recreate the adventure, but my guess is that he just wants a break from school....more

A Staycation In Cambria | Part Two

Part two of our journey takes us to our time spent checking out all of the views that the coastline had to offer us while we were staying in Cambria. The cooler temperatures kept the fog lingering and I really enjoyed the mood it brought with it. It was relaxing for me in a way and allowed my mind to slow down to take the whole experience in....more

How to Combine a Vacation with a Staycation

I took this past week off from work. The Pilot had some time off so I took the week off so that we could spend some time together. I was in desperate need of a staycation, but I really wanted to take off and go somewhere, so I did both! The Pilot and I hopped on a plane and headed to the UAE for a few days in Dubai, before coming home to a few days of exploring our back yard. It such an awesome way to spend a week off, that I thought I'd share some tips that might convince you to turn your next week off into vacation/staycation! ...more

How to Plan the Perfect Staycation (And Why You Need One)

Since Dave and I are both close to our families and have family in several places throughout Wisconsin and Michigan, we spend a lot of time traveling. Obviously we love visiting family and friends, but it can be exhausting. We either take a half-day on Friday or leave right after work to drive anything from 1.5 to 5 hours. We spend one full day, then turn around on Sunday and make the drive all over again. Often times, we end up over-scheduling ourselves. We’ll have two months in a row sometimes where we’re driving somewhere else every weekend....more

Staycation Ideas - how to make a great one!

Hubby and I recently took a "staycation!" For the 4th of July holiday weekend, Hubby got off a couple days of work and we decided to spend some quality time together. Baby will be here in about a month so we wanted to have one "last hurrah" and some alone time before that big baby day came. Instead of spending lots of money to get a hotel and all that goes with going away for a few days, we decided to have a staycation. This staycation was much less stressful for us and a money saver! But staycations do require a few things!...more

AZ Biltmore Staycation

Hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July weekend! We took a little staycation on Friday and stayed at the AZ Biltmore Resort. If you're ever in Phoenix I'd HIGHLY recommend staying there! It was built in 1929 so it's full of history and was also crowned 'The Jewel of the Desert'. Ronald Regan and his wife honeymooned there and every president since Hoover has stayed there! I just love places with that much history to them :)...more
