SXSW Interactive ran from March 7–11 in Austin, Texas. You probably saw Beth Kanter's post SXSW Zuckerberg/Lacy Interview: What is the style, substance, or participation?. Additional drama of a different kind occurred in Frank Warren of Post Secret's Keynote. When Warren invited the audience to step to the microphone and reveal a secret there was a marriage proposal. It was accepted, too.
Twice in the past four weeks I have had the ‘pleasure’ of attending those non-stop booze fest masquerading as real work, type weekends events. Though using the word ‘pleasure’ would probably be putting things nicely since I find constant schmoozing to be as awesome as standing in a room full of clowns. But since the former is a large part of my work and the latter would probably knock me dead, I can say that I do the schmoozing with a smile plastered on my even if it requires deep breathing and maybe some tranquilizers.
Sarah Lacy's keynote interview with Mark Zuckerberg yesterday at the South by Southwest conference was described as a train wreck as the geek audience heckled the Lacy for failing to get to the point and her interview style. The audience grew bored of the topics (mostly business focused, not technical) that she covered and said the real issues (data portability and privacy) were being ignored. An avalanche of negative tweets sparked a lynch mob in the room, demanding that the interviewer throw it open for Q&A from the audience.
