Six Things I'm Thankful For This Year

What's the most unlikely thing in your life for which you give genuine and frequent thanks? What surprises you about your gratitude? We know we should be grateful for whatever health we possess, whatever prosperity we enjoy and whatever cable or streaming devices to which we have access.Yet, paradoxically, it's at those moments when the universe seems to let us down that we gain our most significant strengths....more

Ride the Wave: Hawaii 5-0’s Surprising Lesson in Thankfulness

Just the other night, I was watching one of my favorite TV shows, “Hawaii 5-0,” where one of the main characters featured in that night’s episode was a young woman, a veteran, who’d served in Afghanistan, during which time she’d lost both legs. The show was forthright in its brief portrayal of some of the tough challenges such vets can face: depression, falling into substance abuse to alleviate the physical and mental anguish, homelessness....more

God's Grace

God’s grace is a powerful thing. Many people have no idea what God’s grace is or simply don’t believe it’s something they could possibly need. I use to be one of those people.I use to have a hard time seeing beyond myself to the world around me, because I was so busy. It was always about getting something done, never about loving, or even seeing, the people around me....more

I can't tell you how nice it is to be back to my usual self again! ...more

Today's Gratitude List - Linkup No. 44

What's on your gratitude list as we bid farewell to August and look ahead to fall? I'm grateful for the ever-nearing opportunity I'll have to see my family and some old friends when I visit Victoria in October - now that September is practically here, it seems like my trip is that much closer, and I'm getting more and more excited about it! Hope you'll join me in this week's Gratitude Linkup! ...more

Today's Gratitude List - Linkup No. 43

It's been a fairly quiet week for me. Peter and I have put ourselves on a rather strict budget for the next while, and haven't really been going out much (apart from our weekly trivia evening) or doing anything particularly exciting... so right now my gratitude is pretty much focused on my home and all the things in it. Hope you'll join me in this week's Gratitude Linkup! ...more

Happiness Depends on Perception

Even on bleak days, there are certain facts that I stand on. I am alive, healthy, not living on the street but in a large old, quirky house, with acres of gardens, trees and meadows. I am still married after almost 35 years with 9 healthy, successful adult kids and 5 grandkids.  I am loved by my family and God, even if I drive them crazy with my eccentricity. I have a computer, two hands with all my fingers to type...more
