Our Annual Spring House Blessing

Right before the first day of spring, as nature renews its spirit and strength, so goes the renewal of spirit and strength in our home. Every year we invite our priest over to our home and perform a "House Blessing" ceremony, or "Service of the Blessing of Water". Image: 依靈 via Flickr ...more

Biggest, Slowest, Fastest, Mostest... as declared in 1963

One thing I cannot resist are old books. I can't afford the money and shelf space for old books just for the sake of them being old, as much as I would love an entire library full, but books that paint a picture of the world at their time of origin are something I seem to be unable to pass up....more

After researching all wedding traditions there are three that earn the top obsolete, sexist and promoting inequality – engagement rings, bridal showers and name change. Now, women are starting to understand that third-wave feminism is about choice, but I have to say that when it comes to name change it isn’t an educated one. There are three reasons why the tradition of women adopting their spouses names exists....more

Roll Tide?

The June National Blog Posting Month focus is all about being a fan. I'm kickstarting my blog by participating in this month-long challenge. In my hometown, nothing beats Alabama football. Crimson and houndstooth are always in fashion, and babies learn what the elephant says, along with the cow and duck. As a kid, I played in the grass in the shadow of Denny Chimes, and I remember many a Saturday spent listening to Eli Gold with my dad....more
