#274 Present, Day 13 of 31

I work in a small community hospital.  Most of my day to day patients are what could have been seen in a primary care provider's office if only we had enough primary care providers.  They're the coughs and colds and bladder infecti...more

Meet the Horses-Part Two

Equine Assisted Therapy Part Two- Meet the Horses We begin our work with clients by having them meet each horse in the herd. We currently have a herd of six horses, each of whom has a powerful story. Clients typically will feel drawn to a certain horse by something that they hear when the horse’s story is told. This will resonate with a client who has experienced his/her own trauma and help them to feel an emotional connection before they even begin to work with the horse. ...more

EMDR Part II

Yesterday I talked about how great EMDR is. I explained how it works by essentially allowing you to change your old negative pathways of thinking and develop new, positive ones. This allows those old, negative pathways to heal over and eventually disappear. I tried to describe the feeling and experience of EMDR but in the interest of time I decided to make this a 2-part essay....more

Attack of the Killer Bees

A few years ago, Remie had a very traumatic experience and he hasn’t been able to get over it. I hoping my readers can give me some insight on how to help him. Rewind two years: We were visiting my parents in North Carolina. My parents have a lovely house that backs right up to the golf course. The OSU Plane Crashes and Taking Back Absolutes

I heard grown men crying openly as they called in to "The Sports Morning" host, recounting the sad situation of having two plane crashes within ten years impact the OSU Athletic Department and community. Becoming emotional, one man couldn't finish his comment and simply hung up. Responding to the following caller who was excited about some BCS Bowl possibility, the radio announcer said, "I wish I didn't even have to work today. This feels weird and wrong to be doing this kind of show right now." Let's make that that three new experiences: At that moment, I gained respect for the radio announcer on Sports Talk Radio. ...more

NaBloPoMo ~ The day I died and was reborn

Has anything traumatic ever happened to you? Describe the scenes surrounding a particular event. The most traumatic thing that has ever happened to me was an auto collision that I was in a few years ago. On April 16, 2008 I was driving to work on a busy street, stuck, as usual, in a long line of cars waiting for a light to change way up ahead....more
