Girl or Boy? Why Does Everyone Else Care More Than I Do?

Tomorrow, May 30, is the "big ultrasound," where we'll (hopefully) finally find out whether I'm carrying our first girl or our fourth boy. While some families choose to wait for the birth and let the baby's gender be a surprise, we've always liked to know at the major anatomical ultrasound (which is usually done between 18 and 20 weeks). I've been known to say that if peeing on the stick could not only confirm the pregnancy but tell me the gender, I'd be happy!...more

The 7 Wonders Of 3D/4D Prenatal Ultrasounds

1)  Babies chew on and suck on their umbilical cords.  Yes, weird and frightening as it sounds, they do.  What else    are they suppose to do in there to pass the time? 2)  Gender can often be determined without directly viewing baby’s genitals.  Nine times out of ten, if there’s a hand down there obstructing the view, it’s a boy. 3)  Wh...more

A Promising New Way To Screen For Down’s Syndrome

Hey Moms, do you remember the heart-wrenching decisions you had to make about prenatal diagnostic testing when you were pregnant? Should you do the triple-screen AFP test at 15 weeks? Or should you do the nuchal translucency ultrasound plus blood tests for hormone markers at 11-13 weeks. Or should you suck it up and go for the gold standard -- chorionic villus sampling (CVS) or amniocentesis? Hold onto your maternity pants, because a new test is in the works, and things are about to change. ...more

Life is What Happens When You’re Busy Making Plans

After falling ass backwards into marriage with a wonderful man, really more than I could have ever asked for in a person to love me, 5 years later I was getting a little worried. I wasn’t worried about the marriage; it was rock solid with the exception of one not so small issue. I had always known what I wanted in life. There was no time frame on any of it but I knew, in my heart, that I would be married with children and successful at whatever I chose to pursue. Yes, my self-confidence runneth over. One small problem, I met the man of my dreams when I was least expecting it....more

Our Ultrasound Dilemma

When I was pregnant with my first child, I was completely obsessed with the baby growing in my belly. Partly, I was obsessed because the baby growing in my belly made me throw up every day, sometimes more than once, and I needed a reason to be in so much misery. But I was obsessed, none the less. I found out about an elective 3D/4D ultrasound studio near my house, and I had to get one. ...more

10 Things you Should NEVER say to a Pregnant Woman

I knew the next time that I got pregnant; I would have to deal with ignorant comments about my growing belly. During my first pregnancy, absolute strangers who wanted to know all the details about my blossoming baby bump fascinated me. At first, I welcomed the questions, until they started to become insults. I was so appalled by some of the comments that I decided to keep track of the worst insults that can be directed to a pregnant woman....more
