My Brain on Zumba

The most random things occur to me when I'm at Zumba, when I'm glistening from sweat, my breathing is laboured and my muscles are warm. This is what is going on in my head, my brain on Zumba. During Zumba:  My Spanish is largely unintelligible and inaccurate. I’m pretty sure what I’m trying to sing is inappropriate and potentially profane.  Zumba makes native English speakers do bad things to foreign languages.I know more Pitbull lyrics than most other soccer moms....more

I Should Have Worn Two Sports Bras to Zumba Class and Other Lessons Learned

My friend Sheryl invited me to join her in a Zumba class. This was my very first Zumba class, so I didn't know what to expect. I'm kidding -- I knew exactly what to expect. Because I did my research, people! I read TWO whole articles online about what to expect at your first Zumba class.  In one article, there was a photo of some very fit-looking women jumping like gazelles. I figured that was just for advertising effect.  Surely there would be no actual JUMPING in a fitness class? I'm more of a low-impact girl myself, and by that I mean no impact. ...more

Crashing the Zumba party...

I'm fairly certain my Zumba instructor is part mime. A dictatorial mime. She wasn't there to entertain. She wanted action -- mine. I complied. Or I tried. When my husband shirked his personal training duties in order to ride his bike on Sunday, I decided to try a Zumba class. I arrived five minutes early and found small groups of people talking, music blaring, and no teacher apparent....more

I Zigged When They Zagged

Many images came to my mind as I stepped WAY out of my comfort zone and tried Zumba (rolling my eyes) of all things today. Fish out of water, an innocent squirrel being electrocuted on an electric fence - I'm pretty sure this was what I looked like as the room hip hopped, Salsa and swayed. I don't have a rhythmic bone in my body. If I ever thought I did, today proved otherwise....more

How do you work it?

When my workday is finally done at 5:00 the last thing I am thinking is 'Yeah! I have so much energy! Time to work out!' It's more like 'Oh my gosh.. I am so tired. All I want to do go home and cuddle with Lucy.'BUT I try my best to get motivated to do some sort of exercise activity at least 4 times a week. I teach dance two nights a week so that takes care of two out of the four. LOVE teaching my sweet girls-so rewarding....more
