I never intended to ruin our friendship. In fact, if anything, I thought consummating our fifteen year relationship would strengthen our bond, deepen our connection.
We've been friends for nearly two decades now, through my marriage and after my divorce and the guys who supposedly helped me get back into the dating scene. What a joke! The only thing they helped me discover is why it is so difficult - and depressing - to be dating as a single mom.
We're thirty-something already. You - never been married and childless. Me - can't even keep track of the number of men I deleted from my online dating inbox because of some minor details that only served to remind me that "he" doesn't know me like you do.
The me before I became a mom. The person I was before marriage and all the baggage that comes with divorce that forever changed me. No one could really ever know me like you do.
I feel comfortable with you. I can laugh, cry or simply say nothing and I know that you'll never wonder if I'll ever shut up.
We don't talk every day. We don't discuss or dwell on matters of the heart, which is why I can only assume that the reason why you haven't taken that next step is because you're just as afraid as I am.
Fear is very motivating. It stops many of us from doing or saying what we want. It can also push us to take major risks, not wanting to lose out on the only opportunity, the once-in-a-lifetime chance to finally say or do what we've always wanted to. I didn't mean to ruin our friendship.
