Men.

Men who sing.

It’s a weakness.  Let’s just admit it.

Christie Brinkley with Billy Joel.  Iman with David Bowie.  Rachel Hunter with Rod Stewart.

What about men who sing, and also play an instrument?  Getting weak in the knees  yet?

Well let’s add one more element, shall we?  How about:  Men who sing, play an instrument, and are funny.

The trifecta of attraction.

Joanne Woodward once remarked that the reason she and Paul Newman lasted so long, is because he made her laugh. “Sexiness wears thin after a while and beauty fades” she said, “but to be married to a man who makes you laugh every day, ah, now that's a real treat.”

Well ladies…. Have you met Tripod?

The award-winning trio of Scod (Scott Edgar), Yon (Simon Hall) and Gatesy (Steven Gates), have been entertaining audiences for over a decade and a half.  Regulars on Australian radio and television, and asked to open last year’s Microsoft Keynote Conference in Vegas, these three brilliantly talented men were just nominated for their fifth ARIA (the Australian Grammy) for Best Comedy Album of the year.

If you watch any clips of the guys from when they were regulars on the Australian television show, “The Sideshow”, look in the front row of the audience.  Nothing but women.  Their fan pages are jam-packed full of female fans and their love of these three men.  Not surprising. The guys sing, act, are intelligent, funny, and combined are a dream.  Any one (female especially) who discovers them, tends to immediately buy all their albums on iTunes, and spends hours on YouTube watching anything they can get their hands on.

Tripod’s savvy and hip take on everything from breaking up over a text message, to the rock band Oasis, to buying a digital camera, have made them extremely popular in not only Oz, but around the world.

Yon was excited when he saw that someone had posted a version of their mega-hit song, “Gonna Make You Happy Tonight” (the typical tale of a man, a woman, and an Xbox), with Spanish subtitles.

“It had like half a million views” Yon went on to say. “Since then I've been trying to convince the other two that we should work up a set en espanol and tour the Spanish-speaking world. I basically want to be the Three Amigos.”

With plans to invade the US in January 2010, Tripod’s fan base grows daily.  They’ve hit the social media circuit, are currently on a tour of the bottom left-hand corner of Australia, and individually, appear on Aussie television almost weekly.

So ladies, check out this dynamic, clever, and witty, trio.  Become a Podster.  And if you are so inclined to be in the front row yourself, then make plans to attend their world premiere of their latest show, Tripod versus the Dragon at the Massachusetts Museum of Modern Art on January 30, 2010.
