Get to Know Stephanie McAfee

BlogHer Original Post

BlogHer Book Club author Stephanie McAfee was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, and raised in rural Tippah County, where she grew up eating peas and cornbread, fried okra, and homemade apple pie. She earned a B.A. in English from the University of Mississippi and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Alabama with a M.A. in Secondary Education.

Stephanie self-published Diary of a Mad Fat Girl on Christmas day of 2010, then listed it on Barnes & Noble’s Pubit! and Smashwords around the first of February. On March 27, 2011, it showed up at #31 on the New York Times Bestseller list in combined print and e-book fiction. This was especially exciting since it was strictly an e-book that was not available in print. That same week, it debuted at #17 in e-book fiction. Diary of a Mad Fat Girl only survived two weeks on the combined print and e-book list, it but hung around in the e-book fiction category for twelve weeks.
