Maryann Tomovich Jacobsen is a registered dietitian, mom of two and creator of Raise Healthy Eaters, a blog dedicated to providing families with simple and sound nutrition advice. As her many subscribers know, Jacobsen gives advice that is easy to put to use, much as she does with the idea of getting more sleep.

Rather that overhaul a person's overall sleep habits (and yes, mine are in desperate need of an overhaul considering that I go to bed at midnight and wake by 6 am), she offers small tweaks you can do that will have a big effect down the road.

I especially love her advice to pick one night a week as your night to go to bed early and keep that sacred, as well as pointing out that you should note how you feel the next day and decide whether the effect is worth it to extend to two or more nights per week. I'm trying this out starting on Monday.

Go over to her blog and read more tricks to getting more (and better) sleep without having to overhaul your entire life.

Melissa writes Stirrup Queens and Lost and Found. Her novel about blogging is Life from Scratch.
