Gettin' My Read On

Over the past few months I've been doing quite a bit of reading, at least more than I usually do. It all started with the trilogy that just about everyone I know is crazy about . . .

The Hunger Games! I read the trilogy in a matter of days. I just could not get enough! And then I anxiously waited for the movie to come out on March 23 and I went to see it that night with my sister. I loved that too! I'm definitely kind of obsessed.

After I finished The Hunger Games trilogy, I desperately needed to fill that void in my life with another book that I would be equally enthused about. Luckily I found this . . .

Divergent! Another dystopian (and technically young adult but who cares?) novel that takes place in what used to be Chicago. And Chicago is my city, so how could I not love this book? And it gets better . . . it's a trilogy! One little problem--I finished Divergent at the end of March and its sequel, Insurgent, did not come out until May 1--what was I to do?! Get sucked into another literary craze is what I decided to do . . .

Fifty Shades of Grey! Yes, I decided to read that filthy, filthy book. Not great writing and very weird and dirty, but it certainly kept my attention and I sure do plan on finishing up the trilogy at some point. I then moved on to a touching memoir written by a blogger I just love . . .

Bloom! This memoir is by Kelle Hampton, the blogger behind Enjoying the Small Things. Kelle writes about her experiences as the mother of two girls, the second of whom has down syndrome. It is candid and written in a way that feels like you feel like you are talking to a friend. Great book and I do recommend it for sure! And then before I knew it, it was time to get this book . . .

Insurgent! I went to pick it up on May 1 and started it after I finished Bloom. I am a little more than halfway through and I am loving it! Highly recommend!

So what is it that you are reading these days? I always love to hear book suggestions!
