Hi, I'm Laura, and I write Momtrolfreak: Driving Yourself and Others Insane While Raising the Perfect Child. I'm relatively new to blogging (five months?). I am ashamed to admit I also am new to BlogHer, and had no idea it existed (forgive me, I'm new) until Jory e-mailed me to say I was BlogHer of the Week, (submitted by one of my readers unbeknownst to me). I quickly became a HUGE fan of BlogHer and can spend hours trolling around reading all your comments! I was lucky enough to get a ticket to BlogHer even though I'm a latecomer, because another blogger (thank you!), Genie @ The Indavertent Gardener, was unable to come and sold me her ticket! Yay!

More on me:

I am a recovering Southerner, Type-A Buddhist, inflexible yogini,
and WFHMom to a ridiculously cute and funny 3-yr-old boy. I'm a shitty
housekeeper and an even worse cook. The only thing I know how to use in
my kitchen is the computer.

Also a hater of all things white and gloopy: yogurt, mayonnaise,
Rush Limbaugh, cottage cheese, cream cheese. (Ice cream is okay. Flan
is not. Don't even say the words "rice pudding" in my vicinity or I
will pass out.)

Hobbies include yoga, writing, rolling my eyes, yelling at people in
traffic, and complaining when forced by my husband to go camping.

I excel at stressing out about things I can't control, controlling the things I can, and not knowing the difference.  Oh, and I write.

I just ordered my business cards and they are CUTE! But glossier
than I'd like. But I love my logo so it's all good. I got carried away
and also ordered a coffee mug, a t-shirt, a tote bag, and stickers with
my logo as well. It's cute - go look, you'll understand (I did not
design it, my friend Jessica did). I don't do that Poken thing but I
bet I will be jealous of it this year and get one when I get home.

I
am totally freaking out about what to wear, because I had given it no
thought until I saw whole thread on "what I'm wearing." Ack.

I am very social, but I'm kind of nervous about being all
by myself at a conference with no one I know to make snarky comments to
so if you see me COME SAY HI!!! I live in Chicago, actually, so ASK ME
where to eat, go, see, etc. Quick tips: The new modern wing at the Art museum is
incredible! Millenium park's Gehry structures: awesome. If it's hot there's a fountain there you can run through. Try the deep
dish pizza at Pizzeria Uno or Gino's East...If you want a Chicago style
hot dog go to Wiener's Circle. STreetWise is a magazine published entirely by the Homeless, licensed homeless individuals sell it on street corners for $1, and is actually interesting to read. Our local free what-to-do paper is The Reader. If choosing between the Tribune and the Sun-TImes, go with teh Trib, the writing is better. The Sun Times once had a front page typo about the Goodman Theatre that said "NEW GOOMDAN THEATER OPENS." Yes, Goomdan. SOuth side is Sox land, North side is the Cubs. You can do free behind-the-scenes tours of Wrigley on Thursdays usually. It's a gorgeous park. Oh and do NOT call it the Willis Tower, it's SEARS. Forever and always.

Also, the weather is all over the place, it was actually COLD this morning, so pack layers--i mean, not PARKA layers, but like, a cardigan or something.

Can't wait to meet all of you!

THank you so much--and I'd love to hang out after BlogHer. I finally got a ticket so I'll be there--I was woefully late on the party thing so all I'm going to is SocialLuxe Lounge (I was a finalist, yay!) and the BowlHer event.  OMG, I jsut typo'd that as "BlowHer" the first time I typed it, LOL. That would be the rated-R version of the event ;-)

I had no idea you were that new to blogging. Really. It does not show (and I mean that nicely, really.)

And, I live in the Chicago suburbs and we must get together after the conference - often - I love your blog!

And, I am so glad you said that about the Sears Tower! My mom was here last week and she started talking about it not being called the Sears Tower anymore and it made me grouchy. ;-)
