Getting My Life Together One Day at a Time...prologue

So....I know that there are a lot of categories here. There are a lot of life categories that I need to get on track:

  1. Spiritual Health/relationship with God (I am currently struggling with two problems: I need a "crutch" to help me study my Bible..I am currently reading a book that is teaching me how to delve into it on my own; I also have problems with time management and commitment...
  2. Home organization/decor: my house is a cluttered wreck! I hate to clean, I have SO much crap, I have a hard time getting rid of things...etc., etc. My husband is oblivious to the clutter. It just doesn't bother him. Me, however...I am currently typing while sitting in my bed looking at our workout clothes, my robe, some underwear, and various other garments draped on the end of the bed or thrown in the floor. It's making me nuts.
  3. Work: After 8 years of teaching preschool special education, I am now teaching special education to grades 3-5. All subjects. Learning disabilities across the board. 10 of 11 students I have to do assessment portfolios for. My eyes are bleeding as I am thinking about this.
  4. Budget: We have a good deal in savings, but it could be a lot more. We have a mortgage, a car pmt., and a couple of misc. credit accounts with very small (one under $500, the other under $900) balances. We just learned that an IRA snafu resulted in money being withdrawn from my in-laws' bank acct rather than ours. Now we owe them $6000. Great time, with the market and all. So much for the gigantic debt snowball...
  5. Meal Planning/cooking: I am attempting to cook a different meal every night for the next year. Except for nights I don't cook. It is my own take on Stephanie O'dea's crockpot experiment...but it is really an attempt to use all of the 30ish cookbooks that I own, rather than using the same ones over and over. Also, I am trying to cut the eating out back to about 1 time per week (from 3-4 times). I really love to cook, just not so much after a long day with grumpy children....
  6. Fitness: I lost about 12 pounds from January to March of this year. I am only 5'3", so that made a huge difference. I have been really committed to my treadmill and my free weights, and I have gotten into the best shape of my life. However, this new job has kept me SO busy that rather than the 5 days of working out that I am used to, I have only been doing 2-3 days. My clothing still fits, but I fear where this is headed...

So, that's a lot, huh? Yep, pretty lofty...but don't worry. I don't expect this to come overnight. But I do expect to get there (did I mention that I am a raging perfectionist?). Right now, I can say at least that my lesson plans are done (I have been on Fall break this week). I did a great workout today. I bought Sink Reflections, the FlyLady book by Marla Cilley, at our favorite used bookstore today. It promises to get me organized in a reasonable frame of time. I'll start with my 27-fling boogies and see how far I can get. I will also cook a new recipe for lunch. We'll see how it goes...

 Hi Mary,

Thank you for the link. Taking charge of your life is huge---remember that there is no such thing as a perfect anything. There are no perfect houses, perfect families, perfect moms, perfect jobs, or perfect marriages. That's what's fun about being a human! We are in control: we decide what needs to be tweaked this way or the other, and we can decide what works/doesn't work in our own particular life.

I'm proud of you. Feel free to email me at anytime, and I'll try my hardest to make up some sort of inspirational mumbo-jumbo to keep you motivated. :-) Life is a process and a journey; there is no destination.

Congratulations on the weight loss!

xoxo
