Getting Started With The Common Core State Standards At Home
The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) have arrived. What does that mean for you and your reading time with your little ones? It can help you start preparing your child for kindergarten and a life long of reading and thinking critically. What can a CCSS Guide from a favorite children's book do for your child? According to the section titled, Key Points In English Language Arts at the CCSS website, “Through reading a diverse array of classic and contemporary literature as well as challenging informational texts in a range of subjects, students are expected to build knowledge, gain insights, explore possibilities, and broaden their perspective.” Doesn't that sound like something you would want for your child?
Don't let the language frighten you. I created two guides for Tiger Tales Books that will help you get your children engaged in the story and they'll be able to do some really fun activities to help them truly connect with the story. I chose a wonderful story by author Jane Chapman titled Hands Off My Honey. The characters are creatively energetic and there is a wonderful twist at the end. Be sure to stop by my blog Kristi's Book Nook so you can download the guides or at Tiger Tales Books for a chance to win two copies of this hilarious read. It's time to get those kids engaged.

Do your little ones love bears, moles, mice and rabbits? If so, they will love this wonderful story. Bear stomped and stamped through the woods with his big jar of honey. All the animals would run and hide because he was so frightful. The ground rumbled and even the daisies and leaves shook and trembled. But, mouse, mole and the rabbit brothers were determined to get just a taste of that honey by any means necessary. They devise a plan to sneak up on bear, but they weren't entirely successful. It seems that mole is not the best at creeping through bushes and jumping over puddles. As a matter of fact, mole might have been the cause of the little group being caught by the bear. Will the little honey bandits get to taste the sweet and sticky treat or is this just an extravagant game of hide and seek? You will have to read the story to find out.
