Girl You Know It's True

Girl You Know It's True! by Karen Campos

Whenever Technology Man has been in a focused hours-long bout of coding or remittance presentations or is avoiding starting a new task or simply trying to draw a response out of the teenager in the house, he can be heard saying, “Girl You Know It’s True.” Followed by the most hilarious dance moves and attempts at singing that you ever saw or heard, claiming all the while, if he got the words wrong, it’s okay because he’s just lip syncing. (FYI: Milli Vanilli was found lip syncing in concert, much to their musical demise.) This makes us all laugh and try to run away from him which in turn prompts him to chase us. So, you can see this is a great stress reliever and procrastination tactic all rolled into one!

But never fear, that is not the only song he knows, oh no, that is not all! He can be heard singing B.o.B.’s “Nothin’ On You” “They got nothing on you baby. Ohhhh, nothing on you!” He may also break out into any one of Weird Al Yankovic’s parodies, perhaps his favorite being, “Eat It!” “Just eat it! Get yourself and egg and beat it!” There’s also the tune known here in Texas, a few years back, as the Six Flags Over Texas theme song because they used it in advertising.

They licensed Vengaboys, “We like to Party” “We like to party! Da da da da da da da…” You get my drift. Can’t you see Technology Man dancing like that at Six Flags? Or he just might start quoting Dr. Seuss’ “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” “Every Who down in Who-ville, liked Christmas a lot, but the Grinch, who lived just north of Who-ville, did NOT!” To which the kids give an exaggerated sigh, “Daaaaaaaaddddd!” Yet still, he continues and before long you are hearing, “You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch!”

Sometimes it’s DC Talk’s “Jesus is Alright” “Jesus is still alright with me. Jesus is still alright. Oh yeah!” Talk about a lyric that will get stuck in your brain!

Or it could be Rich Mullins, “Screen Door” “It’s about as useless as a screen door on a submarine, faith without works, baby, it just ain’t happening.” That hand clapping, cup tapping tune is amazing! (It’s worth the watch, even if it’s blurry.)

Music is amazing. It breaks the tension. Lightens the mood. Gets folks moving. Helps crack some smiles. C’mon, who won’t join in on “Fiiiiiive golden rings” and continue right on down to “a partridge in a pear tree?” Or Technology Man’s favorite by Casting Crowns, a rewrite of, “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day.” It’s great to have a husband who brings music into the home, in whatever form it arrives. Girl, you know it’s true!

What musical melody is heard around your house?
