Goodbye ugly green left behind chair
Tonight I said goodbye to this Lazy Boy reclining chair. I’m thinking it’s circa 1970 and it came with our bungalow that we bought in 2000. We were the third owners of the house, but technically the second because the it was owned by a family who gave it to their daughter. She lived there her entire life and was in a nursing home when we bought it from her. (The cushion is missing because it was in the washing machine.)
When we looked at the house there was a one of those stereo consoles that had a record player inside and was a piece of furniture. And, this chair.
We hoped they would leave the stereo console. They left the chair.
And floor to ceiling beige curtains that made my house look like it could be a funeral home. Or the inside of a casket. Take your pick. There was also a spare set of curtains in the upstairs closet.
Anyhow. The chair. My husband wanted to get rid of it. I was pregnant and thought it might come in handy for sleeping on. That never happened. My husband and my brother dragged it upstairs to the attic.
And then we bought this house and paid movers to move it to my parents garage while we waited the month to move into our house. My husband begged me to throw it away.
But we paid the movers to put it in our basement a month later.
And our cat, Skyler, slept in the chair all the time. He puked a lot too. Don’t worry, I covered it in towels and washed them regularly.
One day, I bought a slipcover and talked my husband into bringing it upstairs. It actually looked nice in a slipcover, he was impressed.
Well. Today the prednisone got to Maisy and she had an accident on it while we were at work. I’m shocked that he tried to save the chair, but I took one look at it when I got home and said it cannot be saved, it’s time to toss it.
I’ve never seen the man put down the PS3 game so fast in my life! Within five minutes it was at the bottom of the driveway.
Goodbye ugly green left behind chair. You were quite the conversation piece in our house for the last 11 years.
