The Scuffle in the Swamp? Do-or-Die for Guiliani? Can McCain be stopped?

The buzz surrounding Tuesday's Florida GOP Primary is heating up with an MSNBC debate in Boca Raton.

Supporters of candidates have spent the day in crowded rec centers and hotel ballrooms, including Mary Colombo, a retire and Rudy Guiliani supporter. She told the "Swamp,"

“Rudy, you did it in New York,’’ a woman called out.

“I did that in New York,’’ he said.

"Yes you did,’’ she echoed.

If you don't have cable, the debate will be streamed on msnbc.com from 9-10:30 p.m. EST, and moderated by NBC’s Brian Williams. He will be joined by Tim Russert, as well as St. Petersburg Times editor Paul Tash.

Join the discussion here at BlogHer by posting your links, comments, and everything in between as the debate plays out in the Sunshine State.

Sigh

By: Maria Niles

And we are off with the inane questioning - to McCain: not what will you do for the economy but you made a joke once about needing to know more about economics so is it a problem for your campaign that the economy is the biggest problem?

I can't listen to McCain

By: Dana J. Tuszke

I can't listen to McCain speak. His voice is really getting to me. I just keep picturing him as president and having to listen to him drone on during State of the Union addresses. I'm so shallow. ;)

I know how you feel Dana.

By: Catherine Morgan

I totally agree with you. :)

For what it's worth, I don't

By: Dana J. Tuszke

For what it's worth, I don't care for Giuliani's speech patterns either. I don't know if it's the way they speak that is bothering me, or the amount crap that is coming out of their mouths. Maybe a combination of both?

Ron Paul on the war:

By: Dana J. Tuszke

"It was a very bad idea and it wasn't worth it." He's getting a lot of applause for his straight answer.

Running against Clinton

By: Maria Niles

Clearly the Republican candidates believe they will be running against Hillary Clinton.

Yes. They sure are afraid

By: Dana J. Tuszke

Yes. They sure are afraid of her. I'm almost tempted to vote for her, just because they talk about Hillary so darn much.

And then Huckabee, quotes Dr. Phil. Good gravy.

Drinking game

By: Maria Niles

Every time they say "Hillary" - drink!

See? This is why these

By: Dana J. Tuszke

See? This is why these debates need to be on weekends, so that we can drink each time Hillary is mentioned. I'd be drunk in less than an hour. lol.

Huckabee is nuts. Absolutely nuts.

By: Dana J. Tuszke

"...prostitutes, pimps, gamblers...non-republicans". What the hell?

Lol, Dana!

By: Maria Niles

I just tweeted the same thing! At least his crazy is funny.

Home insurance vs. health insurance

By: Maria Niles

So Rudy (in Florida at least) supports socialized homeowners insurance but not "socialized" health insurance.

So, in other words owning property in a hurricane-prone coastal state is a right and seeing a doctor is a privilege. And folks wonder why New Yorkers call Rudy fascist.

Meg Whitman to save Republican Party?

By: Morra Aarons

This isn't about the debate- but I just saw it.

EBay's retiring CEO considering a run for California
governor

EBay president and CEO Meg Whitman arrives at the
Allen and Company media and Technology Conference, Sun
Valley, Idaho, July 13, 2007 in this file photo.
Meg Whitman, who has been involving herself more
deeply in the Republican Party, is said to be asking
questions about the logistics of a run, sources say.

As she prepares to depart EBay after a decade at the
helm, Chief Executive Meg Whitman is investigating a
new career -- in politics.

Whitman is talking with top Republicans about whether
she should run for governor in 2010, according to
three operatives who have had discussions with her.
Whitman is said to be asking detailed questions about
the logistics of a run and the impact she could have
as governor, according to the sources, who spoke on
condition of anonymity because they were not
authorized to reveal the conversations.

This is interesting. I

By: Dana J. Tuszke

This is interesting. I sometimes wonder if California will ever elect another Republican governor.

We do, regularly

By: Maria Niles

Although the rural and OC super conservative Republicans in Congress are very different from the more moderate Republicans that win statewide office like Arnold. Meg Whitman, assuming she's moderate, could do quite well running for Governor.

Hillary will be "running for

By: Dana J. Tuszke

Hillary will be "running for president as a team with her husband?" Oh really?

Why do they insist on attaching Hillary to Bill? It's getting old already.

I'm getting a headache,

By: Dana J. Tuszke

I'm getting a headache, watching this debate. I'm so frustrated. I don't care for a single one of these GOP candidates.

Mitt is all for a "head to

By: Dana J. Tuszke

Mitt is all for a "head to head" with Hillary. The GOP keeps attaching Hillary to Bill. Do they not think she can run a campaign on her own?

Ron Paul wants to do away with Social Security. If that's so, I want all my Social Security tax back. After all, it is MY money. And who will take care of our elderly? The government can't handle that responsibility. Look at the screwed up medicare/medicaid system?

Mitt says he won't raise taxes to save Social Security like Ronald Reagan did. Why don't I believe him? Push the retirement age out a bit? Is he kidding? Are we going to have to work until we're 70 before we retire? Good grief, Charlie Brown.

Why should a Cuban be

By: Dana J. Tuszke

Why should a Cuban be allowed to stay here, but a Mexican or Guatemalan can't? Good question.

Castro is a Commie

By: Maria Niles

And Cubans tend to vote Republican.

Oh ha ha ha. Huckabee is

By: Dana J. Tuszke

Oh ha ha ha. Huckabee is sooo funny. He's afraid of Chuck Norris. Heh. This cracks me up. McCain is snickering.

...but not my tv!

I was annoyed when Romney said Americans were the private sector and he understands Americans.

Last I checked "his" private sector and MINE were really different. Mine includes PAYING the credit card company while his OWNS it.

Ron Paul is nuts. There, I said it.

Guiliani got nailed with that New York Times thing. Man-that made him look TERRIBLE. And his whole global warming is the WORLD's problem-not ours? What the hell was that? Last I checked we were supposed to be leaders, not to mention creating a rather sizable portion of the problem.

And personally on the immigration thing...I think that is our burden for better or worse for the country that claims give me your tired, your poor-and our burden as an industrialized nation-to take care of those in need of a better life. And since when is North Korea a fun place to live? Rudy going on about how Cuba is the only place in the world where life is bad made him sound very stupid. China? Oh yeah, totally picnic over there. Seriously.

Maybe it was better my internet went out. Now you just get one long comment instead of 20.

But...Who do you think won???

By: Catherine Morgan

I think it might have been Hillary, and she wasn't even there. They were talking about her like she was already the nominee. I can't tell if they are scared it will be her, or hoping it will be her???
