I'm not sure if you've heard about Palo Alto Software's new SaaS, Email Center Pro or not, but it addresses the craziness of email overload especially for companies that have general email addresses like info@ and contact@ that are checked by more than one person.
It essentially alleviates the problem of who replied what and when.
