D.C. Food Guide: Tips From Local Bloggers
Leighann Three Hobbits
What is the best restaurant for a first date (we're thinking impressive and cost-effective)?
We love Jaleo on the corner of 7th and E St NW. Chef Jose Andres makes fantastic tapas and paellas in a friendly atmosphere. It's close to the Verizon Center and Shakespeare Theatre for those wanting to catch a show or a game.

Stirrup Queens
What is the best place for ice cream, sorbet and popsicles and what do you order?
Carmen's, outside the city in Rockville. I always get the blue raspberry water ice.

-- Melissa Ford, Stirrup Queens

Laurie Writes
With a growing number of food trucks hitting the city, which ones are the best?
I admit it: I followed up an obsession with The Great Food Truck Race on the Food Network by roaming the streets of Adams Morgan the first weekend the Red Hook Lobster Truck hit the city. Lobster rolls, whoopie pies and sodas from Maine all made it totally worth it.

Lawyer Mama
President Obama is a fan of Ben's Chili Bowl. What makes the spot a hangout for locals and politicians alike? Are you a fan?
I'm a huge fan of Ben's Chili Bowl. Great chili dogs and fries -- but I always seem to be drunk when I visit. That may be why it always tastes so good!

-- Stephanie Himel-Nelson, Lawyer Mama

What is the best restaurant for authentic Ethiopian food and what do you order?
Dukem. I always go with a big group of friends, and we order a combination meat/veggie/yumminess platter (honestly, they have all kinds of stuff and some of it I have no idea what it is).

Home Grown
Where do you look when you need a restaurant recommendation?
D.C. Foodies. Jason Storch and his hand-picked editors do a great job of keeping tabs on local restaurants, chefs and wine.

C+C Marriage Factory
Where do you go for the ultimate picnic spot?
The Aboretum is underrated and beautiful. Find a quiet spot on one of the tons of walking trails, or sit by the koi pond and feed the fish. Bring a sandwich from Taylor Gourmet.

-- Christina, C+C Marriage Factory

Life in Pink
What's the best dessert?
Cupcakes -- be sure to try Georgetown Cupcake and Baked and Wired -- both in Georgetown and both well worth the trek!

-- Heidi, Life in Pink

Where do you go for happy hour?
Cafe Asia near Farragut West Metro. It has modern décor and great pan-Asian food -- and it's cost-effective, with happy hour specials.

Stirrup Queens
Where would you take a vegetarian or vegan?
Yuan Fu, outside the city in Rockville. It's fantastic vegan Chinese food. The entire menu is vegan!
