This is a compensated review from BlogHer, Dr. Hauschka, Petite Marie Organics, SheaTerra, and Kiehl's.
I think by now we’ve all heard about the benefits of “going green“ - and at the risk of causing you to violently roll your eyes in disgust (green is good, we GET it!) - I decided to share one of my resolutions with you, which is to be a little more aware about the stuff I use in the name of beauty. In other words, I'm going green.
What can I say? I'm a unique and delicate flower.
I’m going to keep it real here: I’m not going 100% green, but anytime I can avoid putting something potentially harmful on my person I’m willing to give it a try. I love cosmetics, but I don’t want to poison myself in the name of beauty - anyone remember the belladonna ladies? I’ve happily been researching the organic cosmetics aisle in the name of saving the planet (and my skin) - and I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the elegant and downright decadent products that are now available. There’s very little patchouli out there, so be not afraid!
Here are my top green beauty products. What are yours?
Dr. Hauschka Lip Balm
Who doesn’t love Dr. Hauschka? The brand has been around for 40 years and has never compromised its high ethical and product standards (they even grow their own ingredients!), and when your products are made to be absorbed by the body, aren’t your ethical and product standards the same thing? The lip balm is too heavy for everyday use in my opinion, but it works great at bedtime. I use it when my lips are extra chapped and wake up to supple lips - without ingesting yucky petroleum-derived ingredients.
Petite Marie Organics Kiss of Love Moisturizer
I have yet to try this product, but I was intrigued by the fact that everything in this line is ”so pure you can eat it“ and that this moisturizer also doubles as a diaper rash ointment. Oh, and it only costs $14.99 - score!
Shea Terra Organics Moroccan Mud

I’ve always been intrigued by the mud treatments at spas but I’ve never tried them - so when Shea Terra offered to send me some of their Moroccan Mud to try I jumped at the chance. I LOVE it. First of all, it comes in a powder - so the 16 oz jar will go a long way. Second of all, you can mix the powder with anything you want - water if your skin is oily, honey or milk if you want a more soothing treatment - so you can customize your treatment every time. You’re getting an endless combination of products in one - and you know exactly what’s going on your skin. It costs $18.
Kiehl’s Aloe Vera Biodegradable Liquid Body Cleanser

A 100% biodegradable body wash by Kiehl’s, and all net profits go to an environmental charity created by Kiehl’s and Brad Pitt? How could I not mention it? One to try for sure. (Brad, call me!)
And now, for the greenest product of them all...
Olive Oil
(Yes, plain old olive oil!)
I used to buy the awesome Olive Oil Cleanser by DHC ($24) and I still recommend it - yet I always suspected that the real thing would work just fine, but I was too scared and lazy to try it on my own. Then Jessica from Balancing Everything told the internet that she uses extra virgin olive oil to wash her face and I haven’t looked back. Olive oil is awesome all around, it dissolves make-up and oil while it moisturizes your skin. And you can pour it on your salad. I can’t say enough good things about it - just don’t call it EVOO, for the love of all that is holy!
