Years ago when I first had my babies I began feverishly switching over harsh cleansing products for cleaner and less fumy alternatives. I noticed that when I cleaned windows with that blue stuff in the spray bottle, the ammonia smell would almost knock me out. Having a husband with asthma and a baby on the way, I didn’t want anything to harm my loves. That was 10 years ago. The one thing I could not find was a daily shower spray that did the job and didn’t smell odd. That has changed – I now simply make it. Not only is it a greener and less toxic spray, but the grout stays beautifully clean!
I had found a couple recipes online, but none of the ones I found really worked well. I decided to test a few other options out and came up with this gem:
Jersey Girl Organic™ Greener Cleaner DIY Shower Spray
- 1 1/2 Cups water
- 1/2 Cup hydrogen peroxide
- 1/2 Cup White Vinegar
- 1 teaspoon peppermint liquid castile soap (Bronner’s is a good brand)
- 20 drops tea tree essential oil
- 15 drops peppermint essential oil
Simply whisk together in a large glass bowl and pour into a spray bottle, new or reuse an old (and cleaned out) one.
Spray around the shower each day after you’re done, while it’s still wet, and BOOM! Clean shower. (make sure to shake well before each daily use.)
This is an easy-peasy swap out for a less toxic option. What household cleaning products have you changed over?
