Online group management tools

Even though the schoolyear is barely half done, it's that time of the year for kingergarten registration, summer camp registration, and all kinds of preparation for the upcoming schoolyear.  I got a call recently from my kids' PTA asking what sorts of jobs I'd be willing to sign up for next schoolyear (I agreed to continue my position as tshirt coordinator, and reluctantly agreed to consider a couple of other positions for various activities and events).

That call got me thinking about how much easier it would be for our PTA if they signed up for one of those online group managament tools -- who needs phone trees and unbearably long email threads if you can access signup sheets in a single, online site?  I'd love to send a quick email to our PTA president giving her my two cents, but rather than ranting and raving about how I hate people phoning me, even if it's for a noble and worthy cause such as my children's education, I want to find out a bit more about online group management sites first.

I know there are many out there, but I haven't used any of them as a group organizer.  BigTent seems to be the site of choice for the parenting clubs I've joined, Google Groups seems to be popular with groups that have members scattered around the country,  I've heared Jooners.com is good for school fundraising teams and soccer clubs, and I've heard of some new-kids-on-the-block like Qlubb.com -- but can anyone speak from experience about what they like and don't like about these sites?
