Anyone who has read my blog for any length of time understands that I'm not a very good cook. Now not for lack of trying mind you, but whenever I'm in the kitchen things seem to go terribly awry on me. My pizza braid was a prime example. You'd think I'd learn my lesson. Unfortunately that's not the case because this week I attempted to make an apple pie.
Since I have company visiting right now I decided to whip up an apple pie treat to serve with dinner the next day. It's also core week around here on The Juice and since I clearly demonstrated I don't know much about the body core, I thought I'd impress you with my culinary skills instead. You can see where this is going can't you?
My first mistake? Starting a pie at 10:30 at night. Let me be the first to tell you that this is so not a good idea. I selected a family recipe and set to work. I'd prepared the pie crust dough earlier in the day and went ahead and got it all rolled out and pretty. Plan A was off to a good start. It was only when I was putting in the apples that I realized I had completely forgotten to make a top crust. A frantic search on google for Plan B led me to a crumb topping instead. Unfortunately the story doesn't end there because when the recipe tells you to dot with butter. Dot with butter, I'm just saying. There's a reason for that butter and it's not just to add inches to my waistline. Apparently dotting with butter KEEPS YOUR PIE FROM BURNING. Ugg.
Plan A was a beautiful full deep dish apple pie similar to this one from Dawn's Recipes:

Reality....otherwise known as Plan B looked like this instead:
Not quite the effect I was going for. How about Plan C....a little dusting of powdered sugar.
Yeah that's not going to cut it. I think Plan D is looking pretty good right about now.

Please tell me you can relate. No?

That was very brave of you!
I couldn't bake a pie on a bet. The whole dough thing sounds complicated, and if I did some how manage to make one I'd eat way too much of it.
And I actually think your creation looks very tasty!
I never learn my lesson
You'd think I'd learn and just give up the fight. Apparently I'm delusional! LOL
