NOW PLAYING: Healthy BBQ’s for Labor Day
I’m not sure when I made the association of Labor Day with big slabs of meat. It just seemed to be what was cooking that day while I was growing up. Labor Day, a day of rest and for many, of sloth, is tough when you are on a regimen, vegetarian, or just trying to cut back on charred, red meat.
Meeting Lynda Balslev of TasteFood blog was wonderful because while she didn’t say this explicitly, she practically screamed, “You have options!” Good ones. Tofu, I’m told, is hard to grill. But why do you have to try to recreate meat on the grill, or why can’t more healthy meat options still taste good? If someone who went to Le Cordon Bleu says it can be done, then so be it (I tasted the eggplant dish she made and have proof). Lynda gives us healthier grilling options for meat-eaters and vegetarians, and even some low-sugar drink options.
