NOW PLAYING: Managing Offline Relationships in an Online World

Struggling to keep this one brief…

So one of the first things I noticed about my business partner, BlogHer Co-Founder, and friend Elisa Camahort Page was this strange dichotomy: We met at a blogging conference years ago and bonded over our shared preference for taking handwritten notes, and yet Elisa is a true geek. She loves her gadgets and lives by staying tuned into her various feeds. I could stop into her office at any one time and she’ll have an IM screen open, TweetDeck, BlogHer Chatter, and any other number of applications open. You could say that she’s connected. And yet that same woman loves her face to face time with people. How is it that she hasn’t been sucked into a social media vortex?

Elisa was the perfect guest for this week’s video episode. I’ve been slow to truly adopt Twitter or write updates on my Facebook page for fear that once I make it a habit of it I will be ruled by the need to digitally update—and I already spend much of my time online. Elisa put things in perspective: If you don’t post updates one day, the world continues. It’s a sad thought, and yet relieving at the same time. She also breaks it down to tools and tactics, which makes managing offline relationships possible, even easier.

In this episode I get to shout out to another time management luminary, Gina Trapani (former Lifehacker writer and SmarterWare founder), who offers advice I’ve actually started to integrate into my email workflow.

Next week: No more complaining about how the economy has glued you to your house: We will explore how to get out and have a proper staycation.
