Swap Partys

First time hearing about it and it sounds interesting!  Plan on learning more about it.

New to the Swapaganza

I'm new to the idea of Swapping, but I'd LOVE to participate and I think it would make delightful blogging material!

I love to swap

Remember the old hand-me-downs? That was our parents' form of swapping. If you were older, it worked out better. The younger ones could get some ratty stuff. LOL. I swap all the time with friends from clothes and shoes, to household items we no longer need. I often post notes in Facebook to my friends, asking if they can use a long list of items. If we cook too much or have excess produce, a friend of mine and I keep dishes rotating so that food doesn't go to waste. My family swaps books at Christmas time, each bringing a box and going home with tons of new stuff. The possiblities are endless, as more people blog and use social media. Happy Swapping!

Been doing this for years

I have been swapping with friends for years.  We started about 8 years ago when a friend of mine lost weight and she gave me her clothes.  In return, I had some handbags that i never used.  Soon after that, we would tell each other and other friends stuff we had that we didn't want or couldn't use and have been swapping ever since.

Like the mall, except w. drinks instead of
post-modern angst

For years I was in a book group that did a holiday books, media and cookies swap.  Out with the old--and much better than an costly party at that time of year.

I want to do an accessories swap with a large group.  No size worries, just new juicy goods.

Swap parties

I've always loved swap parties.  In college my roomate and I would gather a group of our friends and swap clothing, shoes, jewelry, handbags, etc and now as we've gotten older we still swap but now its recipes, books, baby clothes, etc.  Its always a lot of fun, socializing with snacks and refreshments and you get to leave with some gently used treasures!!

We held a book exchange party

Last year, when my third grade daughter had plowed through every book in the house, we invited all the girls in her grade to come to a book exchange party.  Everyone brought a minimum of 10 age appropriate books that she didn't want any more, and traded for books she wanted to take home.  It ended up being like a third grade book club, as each girl touted the qualities of her favorite books.  In the end, we donated all the leftover books to charity.

Having a swap party sounds

Having a swap party sounds like so much fun.  We've always done exchanges but it's usually just informally.  Getting together with everyone at once to swap is a great idea.

I think this is such a great

I think this is such a great idea! I am such a fan of swapping.  You save so much money and it is a lot of fun:)

Best Friends, Best Feet Friends

My best friend and I are inseperable and on one of our outings (which we both HATE to shop) we made a midnight run to Walmart.  Both of us said we needed a new pair of shoes.  Both of us found a different pair we liked.  We left proud of ourself that we had nailed the shoe shopping in one trip.  After a week, my girlfriend asked why I wasn't wearing the new shoes I bought.  I said I guessed they were too small and  they just hurt my feet.  Why wasn't she wearing hers, I asked.  She said they were too big and hurt her feet.  We went home, swapped shoes and our feet lived happily ever after!

Awesome idea for a party!!

I've never been to a true swapping party.  I think this sounds like a great idea!  In fact, just today I cleaned out my kids' play room, and I have a huge box of toys that I planned to sell on a garage sale.  But I think instead I might have my "Hot Mamas" group over for drinks and a little toy swapping.  Thanks for the ideas ladies!!

What a great idea!

I think that would be a fantastic evening of fun. My friends and I usually host those at-home parties like Pampered Chef or candle parties and it would be super easy to add a clothing swap when we're all together. I'd even like to elaborate on the theme by adding other items to the "swap".   I have perfumes that I've used once or twice and decided I didn't like and I'm sure my friends have, too.  You can't sell them since you've used them, but I'm sure my friends wouldn't mind taking a gently used scent off my hands.

sizes

I'd love to try this sometime, but my friends and I are all wildly different sizes. I'm a foot taller than one of my friends and weigh a good (or bad) 50 pounds more than another.  Maybe I need to find different friends.

Swap

My girls and I have been trying to set up a swap for weeks now, the hardest part is finding time we can all get together.....

Old school fun

I used to swap things as a kid all the time. What a great way to recycle, especially for women who love to buy clothes. Save the urge to spend but get new stuff.

Interesting idea

I've heard of this sort of idea for toys, but not for clothes.  Good one!

I'm up for swapping!

I think swapping is a great idea, especially considering our economic 'times'.  As a teacher who is also going back to school for a career change, stretching my pennies has become almost a full time obsession!  Swapping would definitely be a great option.

Swapping is Big in Phoenix

I sell items at a swap meet and I also belonged to a swap group several years ago when I had a restaurant and catering business. I gave catering services or meals in the restaurant in exchange for eye glasses, personalized Christmas cards, Sedona vacation, tee shrits for employees, Xmas gifts, Artwork, carpet cleaning, storage units, movie tickets etc.

A swap party sounds awesome

Getting to Party and get free stuff, while getting rid of stuff I don't need anymore? Dude, totally count me in. I'm going to have to plan one with some of my girlfriends - not sure why I never thought of having one before. :-)

Swapping

I've never had a swap party, but it sounds like a lot of fun. It's also a fantastic idea for tough times like we're witnessing now in our economy. I'd love to have a party with my friends -- I'm sure they'd appreciate it as much as I would!

neat idea

I'd love to host a party like this.   Neat idea.

swapping

This is a great idea.  Have you heard of the folks who decide that they will not buy anything new for an entire year?  I had always thought about trying that and this would be a huge help.  I would love to have a grown-up swap party and then a kids hand-me-down swap party.

One on one, not a party...

I love the idea of swap parties to trade goods between families.  While we don't actually have a party, we do rotate things among ourselves based on whose kids are bigger and whose are smaller.  Now that the kids are in headed back to school, I'll have to talk to the other parents about getting together during the day to swap kids' clothes, toys, etc as well as any other items (clothing or household) that are worthy of passing along.

Seems like much more fun that having a garage sale!

I like the idea of an accesories swap - not many of my friends are the same size.

Also - no undressing for accessories. I hate trying clothes on.

Swap Hop

We have what we call a "Swap Hop"  One Friday or Saturday night we all get together and swap - we send out an email list two weeks before and everyone lists what they are in need of or looking for - then we bring it all to the party, BBQ and have fun :)

I swapped my cake decorating

I swapped my cake decorating experience for some help doing home repairs...i made a cake and they painted our walls :) it was great!

Swapping

When I had 5 roommates, we would do this regularly, and for Christmas one year we all swapped hand-made gifts in lieu of purchasing something from a store. Good clean fun, and there are so many different variations of The Swap, you can switch up your parties regularly to keep it interesting.

Swap - Create a Connection

There used to be a wonderful Art Swap site called Create a Connection located here: http://www.justbeconnected.com/

Each month, there was a new Swap topic, such as "My Favorite Things" Swap. You could sign up & then you'd get a partner with who to exchange swaps.

I got to know the lovely This Girl Remembers as well as get some neat items!
